: Rhino-line the outside??
jeepin_james 10-19-2001, 09:30 PM Okay, I can take a hint. Don't ask questions I can ask at jeepboard.com. Fine.
Since alot of the people there are worried about paint looking good or getting their chrome too dirty or scratched, I thought I'd ask this one here.
I helped a buddy rhino line his CJ-7 tub today, and got to wondering if this stuff would work on the outside.
I've got a few scars and nicks, and I know this stuff is damn near bulletproof, but it seems like it would not let go of dirt.
Isn't there also a company that makes it in colors?
Anyone else thought of this?
Highlander 10-19-2001, 09:34 PM yeah , I wondered about this too! My cj is primered and waiting to get painted.
I know it can be colored , but never thought of the dirt sticking to it.
jeepin_james 10-19-2001, 09:39 PM The inside of my YJ has it, and when I get mud on the inside, it washes off, but there is always some left unless I take a stiff brush to it.
Mcstiff 10-19-2001, 09:42 PM Here ya go Linex outside (http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cherokee/xjproducts/company/linex/linex.htm)
jeepin_james 10-19-2001, 09:49 PM That is too cool. Thanks for the link!

txranger 10-20-2001, 12:38 AM does anyone know if that shit is flammable?
AtomicBeesting 10-20-2001, 12:42 AM One of the ARCA guys had his rig go up in flames when that crap caught fire and nothing would put it out.
Mcstiff 10-20-2001, 01:30 AM just spray the rig with hammerite!
Hannibl 10-20-2001, 06:14 PM I went down to the hardware and got this 2 part epoxy garage foor coating, added some copper slag sand-blasting abrasive for non-skid and lined the bed. covered that w/ hammerite and it's bulletproof. For the outside I thought I would leave out the abrasive and just add my favorite color to the mix.

What is hammerite?
Also heard there is major fading issues on all the bed liner paints like rhino liner. Saw one driving around that used a green bed liner on their body and it was faded out reallll bad.
My old XJ was Rhihno lined from the body line down. It looked fine and was tough as nails but there where some issues:
I did it because it was starting to get rusty and this was a easy way to cover it all. I ground the rust down and treated it but after about 2 years it was all coming back under the liner, lis made it buldge and peal in some spots.
The other thing was that it started to fade and get this milky white film on it, it really looked like crap so I just spray bombed the lower part semi-flat black, it worked OK.
The only other problem with it was that you had to scrub the mud off woth a brush or it would get these funny stains on it when you washed it off....this made for far more work then I am into.
Here are pics if they work:

CJBoxer 10-22-2001, 08:59 AM Saw a FJ40 that was rhino lined in red for the whole exterior, looked really good. Rhino lining does fade though, just take a look at some of the pickup beds that have been sprayed, supposedly they also have a uv additive. You could also use the stough we use on our softops, 303 protectant, it is uv resistant and should help keep it from fading.
robobx 10-22-2001, 02:43 PM I know its not the whole Jeep but I used the Duplicolor rattle can liner on my grill. It's cheap, easy to touch up after major hits, and has not faded, yet. easily cleaned with the pressure washer.
