: Oddball idea for tcase options?

I was reading through the newest four wheeler rag and was reading the Toyota tcase info. I have a question?

Would it be a ridiculous idea to fab and adapter plate to fit a toy box behind an AX5/15. They would both be male shafts so a coupler(similar to the dual toy box coupler) would have to be made. run the 21 spline for the ax5, the 23 spline for the ax15. The adapter would only have to be the thickness of the coupler. Then us inferior jeep guys could have the gearing options the Toy guys have. of course after we swapped to a pass side pumpkin.

Is this impossible or too costly to consider. What problems am I over looking? Are my brain cells just mush after all the  I drank this weekend:question:

please enlighten me :flipoff2:

I imagine with enough time, or skills, or money you could make it work. Are you talking about using dual toy t-cases or using a toy as a doubler with your existing t-case. The former would probably be easier since it would only require one custom adapter.

I'm going to be looking into this probably for next winter, but I was planning on using a 203 doubler, with a 4-speed truck tranny, and some t-case (hopefully flipped D300), assuming I can squish it all into my YJ, might have to move the rear axle back (oh darn), a few inches to make it work.

As far as I can tell, the Jeep AX15 and the Toy R150,R151 trannies are the SAME trans.

Find someone with Mitchel's Repair CD's ...... the parts blowups are the same , except for differing input and output shafts, and bellhousing and adapter casting.

I had thought of trying to find an R151 diesel 5 speed, and swap in the 4:1 first gear in place of my AX15's 3.85:1ish first gear.

Another moderately known fact is the AW4 auto tranny used in Cherokee's IS the same trans used in Toyota Supra's and Lexus cars. They have some differing parts and shift patterns etc.

The "Red Devil" aftermarket Toyota auto trans discs are the only upgrade in most cases for teh Jeep AW4 auto trans.

I was thinking of using the dual toy t cases and ditching the NP231 all together. That way you only need one adapter. I am going to have to get a hold of a tcase and check this out. Most likely its impossible or too costly. If it was doable someone on this board would have already done it.

I have been thinking that this is the only sane way to get a decent t-case in my TJ for reasonable cash... I've thought of getting a 23 spline output made for my AX-5 and then a D300. Then I realized that low gearing for a toy setup is much cheaper than with jeep stuff ($1600 for a Klune-v or $450 plus the cost of a toy t-case ($75 ?)). Gearing wouldn't be as low with the toy setup but for another $600 you can get 4.0 for the second toy case and still be $750 cheaper. That way if I can get an adapter made for less than $675, I've saved money. Plus, I like toy sh*t.

If/when I have it made I'll be sure to notify.

Are there any other reasonable (excluding an SM420) t-case options for a 4cyl TJ?

Err, excluding using an SM420 for a tranny to use another t-case.

There are a ton of options out there. If you go to OTT industries website, youll find they make a killer SHORT adapter for a Toy case to an SM420, and they even make a divorce kit for the Toy case (presumably for the Zuk guys but could be used in any application). Ive always wodered why Toy cases werent used more in custom Jeep applications because of all of the transmission similarities.
