I'm looking to purchase a good safe for my guns and the like. Post up what you have and how much you paid for it!

Cannon model T36, lifetime warranty. Its a If it breaks they send a locksmith to your house, if he can't fix it they send a truck to pick it up and take it to the factory to have it repaired. Great customer service. Great safe, I love it and will buy a bigger one when I fill the current one.

Big difference is if it is fire rated or not. If you look around you can find some big office safes, sometimes free just to move them. I bought a big fire rated double door Mosler at a going out of business sale, Gutted it and built gun racks and shelves in it. I have also had a big single ddor fire rated safe given to me. There out there, or just go buy one all done. Again, the fire rating is probably the biggest issue as far as price goes. I paid $400.00 for the big Mosler. I also have a big Browning safe, not fire rated and that was $900.00 20 years ago. I much prefer my homemade double door Mosler. I don. even use the one I got for free. The big thing on the free ones is moving them. Most cities will have a rigging company specializing in moving them. Be careful of fitting it in your house, make sure you can get it in where you want it. Also invest in a Golden Rod dehumidifier to put in your safe to stop condensation, a small light bulb will also work left on. Make sure to get cups for under the wheels also, they need big heavy ones. Some don't have wheels and sit right on the floor.

Just remember that the fire insulation is mostly just sheetrock. If you install your safe in a built in with double layer sheetrock all around other than the door your in pretty good shape. Two layers of 5/8'' sheetrock it rated for a hour if I remember right.

Jason R I just PM'd you. And yes you can get these big old office safes cheap or free. If you happen to find one without the combo you still may be in luck. If your a fabber you can cut a hole in the back and access the door, pretty messy sometimes but it can work. Or you can have a pro drill it or figure out the combo for you. The cost to get it open may be a bargain for the safe you get. I see them on craigslist from time to time for free. Just move them.

I just bought a Cannon C30 a couple months ago. So far I am very happy with it. Ony thing I am not happy with so far is that the top long shelf is starting to sag cause I had ammo stacked on it. I upgraded with the door mounted pistol holsters, dehumidifier, and digital lock.

I bought a Freedom Security (by Liberty) 35 cu ft ; 60 minute fire rating for $1800 last summer.

My safe has a sticker inside saying to not put anything closer than 18" to top for fire protection...which is where your barrels end up.

I would buy a brand with a S&G Lock. I'm not sure the amount of bolts a door has matters. If I wanted to break into a safe, I would just use a sawzall and cut the top or side out. All the other metal is thinner.

Also..how do you guys move these things around!?
