making an air compressor quiet, maybe building a dryer also

I'm moving to a house with a small garage, so I'll be moving my air compressor to the basement to save garage space. About 30 feet of hose to the garage and I'd be all set. Although, I would like to make it much quieter since it will be indoors.

I have a standup husky air compressor.

I was thinking about removing the pump and motor and mounting it in a wooden box on rubber "feet". I think I would have to also build a little fan for ventilation also.

Then I got thinking about air dryers. I could mount the setup inside an old refridgerator which would make it quiet and have copper pipe run through a bucket of water. Then the pipe would exit the fridge to the holding tank.

I was also thinking about a few spare a/c units I have and building a dryer. How do these self contained refrigerated dryers work? Is there some type of liquid filled heat exchanger that is refrigerated?

maybe someone could run with these ideas. I haven't worked on trucks in a while so I'm thinking about these new projects.

I would leave the compressor intact, put it on a thick rubber mat and build a vented box around it.

I don't think you are going to make the thing quiet enough to be happy with it in your house. I would just stick it outside the shop and build a small shed for it...

years ago I worked at a place that had a wash pit that had enzymes that ate oil, it always needed aerated water so there was a screw compressor near it

they has a box lined with 4 inches of styrofoam which cut the noise in half

I don't think you are going to make the thing quiet enough to be happy with it in your house. I would just stick it outside the shop and build a small shed for it...Sure you can. I have mine in a closet between the garage and the kitchen. When its running you can barely hear it in the garage or the house. With the TV on you dont even notice it. I lined the walls and backside of the door with scrap carpet.

Get some scrap carpet and built a large box for it. Carpet the inside of the box, and mount it on those anti-vibration pads. I bet with all this in the basement you wouldnt even notice its running.
