Looking at having some custom splining done. Anybody have a rough idea of what time on a wire EDM costs these days? Ballpark is good enough.

i've got a prototyp extrusion at the EDM right now.

10" long, 19.28" perimeter. $66/inch

We used to get about $125.00 an hour for our wire machine. Thickness of material has some bearing on the speed that it can be burned but the charmilles EDM I ran worked in inches per hour on stuff that was 4 inches thick and over.

if you want to use somebody that does edm splining on a reqular basis so you don't end up pay for them to learn the little tricks it takes to make it happen give Jack at CTM a call...he does a fair bit of it and should be able to dial you in.

Talk to a gear shop. I have a guy in Costa Mesa, CA (Los Angeles area) that does all that stuff. I am sure theres someone in your area that can do spline shaping cheaper then an EDM. Whats the profile of the spline look like? What kind of material?
