Dana 30 & 44 axles widths changed with year and application.
So you need to narrow your question but here is some jeep info but other manufactures also used them.
good luck

Early CJ5's were 48.44 and the Ramblers were 51.5. This is quite a bit of difference. While it is true he bolt can bolt it up. It would be 3" wider. I always thought the term "wide track" started in 76 when the rear frame was widened and the springs were moved outward. Therefore, not all CJ5's are narrow track.

On CJ's the front D30's were all "narrow track" until the 1982 model year.
Starting in 1982 the CJ7's and CJ8's went to a "wide track" D30.
narrow track D30 = 53"
wide track D30 = 56"
The CJ5's all stayed at 53" width.

IFSJA WMS PROJECT
This project was started by Kris, IFSJA Member #300
It's taken me a long time to get them into some form of usable web page.
There are bound to be some mistakes and for now there are many.
Some folks appear to measure off the rotors, others are trying to subtract backspacing. Neither of those methods are completely accurate or foolproof.
If you would like to submit wms numbers, directions are provided below the table.

Directions: (how to measure your wheel mounting surface)
Do this with the tires and rims off, no guessing, with the vehicle secure on jack stands please.
1. Place two straight edges across the area that the rims make contact with.
(not the rotor, not the backing plate, don't estimate, as you can see above that's not working)
2. For the front, make sure wheels, or what is now the wheel mounting surfaces are pointing straight ahead.
3. For the front, make sure the straight edges are vertical (up and down).
(if you run the straight edges horizontal, the numbers will be off due to toe in)
4. For the front place the straight edges towards the front of the hub.
(there will be a small difference between the front and rear side of the hub from toe in also)
5. For the front, measure as close to the wms as possible at the bottom.
(it will be different at the top due to the camber)
6. Measure only the distance between those contact areas, it's that simple.
It's not foolproof, but if everyone does the same thing then we should be able to clear up this mess.

I'm doing my best but have to rely on the numbers that are presented.
If you would like to submit numbers and have them included you can respond to the IFSJA post listed below
