: Cutting down a body lift safe?

Well, I am thinking about picking up a body lift that my buddy has laying around. It is either a 2" or 3" (he's not sure). He bought it for his Sammy, but never installed it. I was thinking of taking it off his hands and cutting it down to about 1" (I don't want any bigger than 1", maybe 1.5"). Would this be safe to do? Seems like it would be okay, but I just thought I would get everyone's opinions just in case I'm missing something. Thanks. ~Steve

Don't really want that tall of a body lift. I don't mind a 1", but I really don't like much over that. Just my opinion. I want it for a little motor clearance (going to 1.6L down the road). ~Steve

the 2" dosn't look all that bad, ya can't see very much under the wheel wells, and everything else is ok too........ in my opnion 1" just isn't worth the time and afford.................

Hey Steve -

If the kit comes with standard blocks, you can go down to Predator and get some replacements. They have a whole box full of pucks, bushings, etc..... They run about $3 each. Check it out.

not 100% sure but i think your gonna need the full 2" to clear the
inj. manifold could be wrong but I thought I heard that some where I have 2" lift now with no Ill affect, to each his own though

I might just have to check into that. I'm getting my Toy thirds regeared/locked there anyway, so I'll have to check. Thanks. ~Steve

You only need about a 1/2" to clear the 1.6 TBI Intake even on a 1.6.. I have a pair of spring bushings up front on mine, and moved the front pads back to the firewall mounts. So I have 1/2 of a 1/2" body lift.
You can see the red bushings in this pic..

You can do an easy 5/8" body by flipping the bushings up to the top of the frame. If you only need a little clearance, this works great as you don't have to do any cutting or modification to the body studs to make this work.

I've got a 3" calmini BL on my rig(that is soon to be taken out), and it uses 2x2 square tube for some of the blocks. THere would be no way to cut those down, if the kit you're getting uses them.

HTH :D

I just cut 1.75" out of my 3 inch Bl on my toy, it's not a problem at all, although most 4x4 shops can probably order 1" pucks individually and then all you need are bolts. I wanted some body lift to help clear sliders.
