I converted from a 4.3 V6 to a 5.3 V8 then had a little rear ender and my air bags inflated. When I got it back from the body shop they said the air bag light would not go out and it could not be corrected by the GM dealer as the engine had been changed. I changed the computer and complete harness with the engine. Any ideas

I've got an idea!!! Take your instrument cluster out... remove the clear gauge lens (5.5mm socket). Pull the plastic piece loose that is used for your gauge face (gray in color). Stick electical tape across the part that is for your airbag light and reassemble. Next find the light bulb that is used for your airbag light in the back of your cluster, and remove it. It may be an LED bulb that isn't removable... in that case don't remove it. Paint over the bulb with black paint and reinstall. Install the cluster... and presto-chango no more airbag light... and your not breaking any laws because your not removing the light. Your just covering up the problem. Wear your seat belt and you can live without the airbag.

Could just be the BCM.
But sounds like they don't
want to take the time to fix it I would let your insurance know about the problem that the body shop is fucking you over! If it worked before should work now. You pay for insurance and they should fix it!
I would have them take it to a dealer and fix it! Fuck the bullshit about it being modified! Any GM mechanic should be able to fix it I would think! Just don't get screwed!

I agree that they are just trying to shaft you over. I work at a GM dealership. You say the air bags went off in your accident?? Did they replace the air bags? The ECM has no effect on the Supplimental Restraint Module (aka Air bag module). If they did replace the the air bags then either a connector didn't get plugged in, or a sensor is wierded out. When the light is on there is a code that almost always shows what is the general problem. Most dealerships, if you ask, will scan the codes and let you know what it is for free.
