So I was planing on using a 454 in my CJ-8, until I found a nice deal on a few Ol' Diesel Chevy's. I was wanting to know if anyone on here has a idea of what the weight differences are between a 454, the old 6.2L CUCV mil, and the newer say 93' 6.5L Turbo Diesel. I think I want to run the 6.5L. I found a smoking deal, though it's no Cummins, I think it would work sweet. The only issues I'm worried about would be: How to cool it and where to put the innercooler. The reason all this started I found a 93 6.5L Turbo in a running truck 800.00 for the whole thing.
Thanks.

A friend is building a old CUCV rig. Took the 6.2 and basically built into a 6.5 and added the banks turbo and such. He has been having some problems with cooling. Right now he is in the process of putting a reverse rotation water pump (newer style I believe) and serpentine setup on it. Thing has decent power. Nothing say a cummins could produce but it works good for him. He is running it through a th475, 203/205 doubler, 4.56 in the 1-tons and 40" MTRs.

For the cooling problem---on the intake surface of the head in the rear, there is a metal plate with a 1/2'' npt thread. Use these holes on both sides of the block to feed the heater core. I reduced the 1/2'' down to 3/8'' then with a 'T' went back up to 1/2'' then to the core. This pulls a bunch of heat out of the back of the block and helps keeps #8 cyl from overheating

Thanks Gents. So the 6.5T would be a nice swap provided I could cool it in the CJ. I'm not against hallowing out the entire grille shell and filling it with the rad if I got to. We shoved a 5 cyl Mercades Turbo into my friends CJ-7 it pulls 30 MPG now but it leaves alot to be desired for power. Our old 93 6.5L T Dually pulled decent milage and ran nice without a load, Nothing like our Cummmins, but I think in a CJ it would haul a$$. I been thinking about a doubler too, but I'm leaning more toward a Stak tcase. I will be running a chevy d60 front and corp 14 rear, probally 39" IROC's and H-1 bead locks. :D

To cool it you MUST be able to run the mech fan .... electric ain't gonna cut it

Yeah I have never been a fan (no punt intended, lol) of the electric fans. I like knowing the fan is working when the engine is running. My AMC 360 runs cold as ice. Wheeling in 100'f it never goes over 180'f. I doubt I'll be able to say that for the new project lol.

OK the decesion was made I found a smoking deal on a LT-1 outta slomaro, SO I guess it's gonna be a gasser. Guess I'll leave the oil burrner to the tow rig.
