Well you could always do what I did and go to your local junk yard and get one off a pre-computer chevy car, truck or van.
Got mine off an early 80's Suburban. It only cost me $25, it works great and even has an electric choke.

Little word of advice though, if the accelerator pump doesn't squrt when you turn the linkage leave it where you found it.

Oh and BTW a Edelbrok carb is nothing but a new and (in MHO) way to expensive Q-jet.

but is the edel really the SAME as a reg q-jet? it is 200 buks, but for a brand new carb, thats pretty reasonable. im just concerned that its a shitty version or sumthin.:rasta:

Well all I know about them is what I've heard, like I said I'll buy a JY carb or one from a buddy anyday over new.

Edlbrock bought the rights to the Q-jet carb from Rodchester and now they're making them themselves.
From what I hear it is a quality product, a bit more tuneable then stock and set up for preformance vrs. mass quantity/fuel economy.
If you can get one new for $200 I'd say go for it.

Holly on the other hand is a gas guzzler. Problem is most people go with way bigger of a carb then they need (like a 750CFM on a stock engine).
Best Holly if you can find one (rare but there out there from what I've been told) is a Holly 550CFM double pumper, works GREAT with a stock or slightly modified SBC.

i have a Auto Zone rebuilt Q-jet an my truck and it runs great. I was $137 and it has a year warranty on it so if it starts to suck i can take it back and get a new one.

The part number for the one i got is #3-78A (052167). It is an early(68-74ish) chevy truck 4 barrel with a mechanical choke and no smog.

Dustin, I have the qjet off my old motor. I kept it because it was fairy new, and always worked great. It was my third one, all from Kragen. They are reman from Holley, and cost me about 225 bucks. It has a thermal choke, worked perfect..........

and why is it not on top of my motor right now?!?!?! lol....the thing i dont want is the thermal choke. is there a way to just remove that off the carb and run a straight manual cable? otherwise...wtf do you want for it ol smurfy?!:flipoff2: :rasta:

Why dont you want the choke? It works awsome. I just took a look at it and I dont really see a way to hook a man cable to it. If the manifold has the plate for the heat riser on the right side of the manifold(passenger side), then I think it will be good.

The Auto Zone carb for $99 is a reman Q-jet by Holley. Works fine. At least until I get my FI. BTW, anyone know how to hook up the choke if you dont have that heat tube on the manifold without it being electric, or is it even possible?

I used a Cadillac carb on my Dodge - the carb was set up for a divorced choke, and I converted it to manual. 71-Cruiser asked me about it a while back and I emailed him photos of the thing. If he wants to post'em that's great; I don't have them here but will try to dig them up this evening. Don't think I'll be able to post them; we've been building a house and I can't afford lunch, let alone a red star.

Lloyd, I still have the pictures that you sent me of the choke setup but i dont have a star so i cant post them. I will try and figure out a way to get them up tonight if i can.

I have the 1903 Q-Jet that supposedly used the heat sink. Edlebrock sells an electric choke adapter for this carb. I bought mine from Summit Racing for around $30. Easy to attach, one wire hook up. Very simple, works great.
