Ok I have done some searching and can't come up with anything.
Does anyone know if there is any difference in the mounting bolt pattern between the manual steering box and the power steering box for 76 to 83 cjs?
The reason I am asking is because I am looking for a new steering box mount because my stock one is all bent up. I have a 1980 cj-5 with manual steering and all the heavy duty mounts I see say they are for power steering. What’s the difference in how they bolt up? Will my manual box fit on the power steering mount?
Thanks for the help.

This isn't 100% but i just switched to the power steering and used the same brackets unmodified. I'M pretty sure they are the same.

same mount for either box, i am doing a power steering conversion so i had switched the old one of the power steering one for the one in better condion(painted it) of my manual steering box

thats what I thought from quickly looking at them, thanks for verifying it.
Now I need to find a good mount that moves the steering box forward some. Anyone have any suggestions?

why do you need to move the box out of curiosity? your gunna have to shorten your steering shaft then i would imagine.

I went full widths and extended my wheel base about 4 inches forward in the front, so I needed to move the box forward about the same amount to keep the steering links from making contact with each other.
I was able to move the stock cross member that the box mounts to by grinding the rivets and welds down and re-welding it about 2 inches forward, but I still need to move it about another inch so the links don't make contact with each other. And yes I will have to lengthen the steering shaft.

Sam's offroad has two super beefy power steering box mounts. One puts it in the standard location, and the second mount moves it forward 3/4".
Im in the process of putting PS on my CJ7 and im using the standard position mount. It looks awesome. Ill rip the frame off before i lose the steering box.

MORE also makes a stronger bracket with a slight forward move, IIRC. Most any Saginaw box will bolt up to that bolt pattern.
Many folks advise bracing the box to the opposite frame rail as well to avert frame cracks around the mount. Not as much of a problem with the manual units.
