I made a deal on a 1990 EFI setup off of a suburban. Picked it up basically for free. It turns out it's a 454 setup, I have acess to pick whatever I need off the vehicle, and I wanted to put it on my smallblock 400 in my blazer. Has anyone tried this big block to small block conversion? Any help greatly appreciated.:)

What all of this EFI "setup" did you get? Why not just get the whole motor?

The guy is keeping the long block, I get anything else I need. Dont really want to change to a big block, my 400 has plenty of power for me, I just want the FI for altitude and steep angle performance.
I thought it was a fuel injected 350 when I made the deal.(didnt see it till yesterday)

A friend of mine just put a Small block TBI set up on his 400, its moslty stock with the exception of a Performer RPM cam and intake. So far it runs great, only problem was a slight lack of vaccum< do to the cam, that is need for the TBI. I think that a big block setup will work for you if your 400 is built somewhat.

My 400 is stock. I think the only real snag would be if there is a smallblock intake that the throttle body will bolt onto. The rest is just sensors and wires, and a computer- right?
I was hoping someone had tried this before.

It's been done hundreds of times!!
The only part difference is the size of the butterflies in the TBI and the injectors.
BBC is 2" and SBC down to 4.3's are 1 11/16" holes.
A lot of thirdgen guys upgrade to the BBC or the holley replacement throttle body.
You will have to have a chip burned for your motor running that TB.
The other option is to drop a set of 350 injectors in the top of it with a 350 chip.
Either way you should have a new chip (or 2 or 3) burned for your motor.
If it has a 1227747(light truck) ecm your good.
If it's the 1228747(heavy truck) then it may be a little more costly to program yourself.

Thanks a million, that little link at the bottom of your post is exactly what I was looking for! :cool2:
Is it feasable for me to alter the chip myself? I'd like to learn how to do that.

Read the FI FAQ's and use the search button at the link!!!!
Then ask questions.
