: Bob w/o a 1/4 elip
troutbum 05-29-2002, 09:58 AM Anyone bobbed their scout without going 1/4 or coils? I was thinking of taking it right to the spring hangers in back...any pics? worth the trouble or not?? I get so sick of hitting the ass end of the scout coming off every ledge or rock...
RustoleumWhite 05-29-2002, 10:23 AM You can bob 8-12" without effecting the stock springs. Even more if you go to an offset set like Waggy's or Ford springs.
The curve of the rear will be just about even with the rear spring hangers with 12" or so. Add a bumper and incorperate the springs mounts (or knotches for them) and your set...
I have it drawn out on my truck, and fully intend on doing it shortly... just haven't got around to going it... Too many other prorities in line first... like paying of r a wedding  and a new full cage....
troutbum 05-29-2002, 12:32 PM you are just getting started paying for a wedding...you'll be paying for that for the next 20-30 years ;).....
I am running a 6 pt family style cage, and I wish I would have bobbed the bed first, cause now I have to shorten the cage if I bob the bed...I am hoping it will be a nice excuse for a bender:D

ya, I know, this is just the up-front costs..... more $$$ than the down payment of my HOUSE   .... and we're just have a nice, SIMPLE wedding.... o-well, its worth it :D :D

cage will be a custom 4+ point inside a 1/2 cab... so no rear runners. Well, I might make some removable ones for when the tops off... not sure. Might just do the bob first... easy to do, and its a "new" tub for my current truck anyway.... so I can *really* do the work in any order I want.....
*slowly* working on building a new frame and tub for my current wheeling rig.... learned enough and trying some new things.... not to mention minimises down time on the wheeler.... and I haven't been out enought as it is......
hmmm, maybe I'll bob it this weekend and snap you a pic.... depends on what the weather's like..... :D
TERRA-IZER 05-29-2002, 01:27 PM I bobbed my Terra 8-9" about 2 years ago, and put the rear cross memeber right to the rear spring hangers, i love it ,it looks good not butchered like the scout 2 i cut 18" off of. The only thing i don't like is running a fuel cell in the bed (soon to be fixed with a custom tank in the stock location). I don't drag the rear at all any more.
sceep 05-29-2002, 01:52 PM My buddy bobbed 12" out of his scout II... loves it. Sorry i dont have any pics of it. I think the only 2 regrets he has are
1. Not spending the $$ for good fuel cells.
2. not bobbing the hardtop also so he had cover in the snow.
Hayraker 05-29-2002, 06:29 PM Here are some pics of my turd,....I mean work in progress. Many things unfinished, and some of what you see was hurry up so I could wheel this past weekend. The reason for taking off so much fender is anticipation of full widths and 42's, front will be chopped similar. Still need to cap the ends of the bed, I used tube to give some strength back to the body.
Hayraker 05-29-2002, 06:32 PM Another, you will notice that in my haste, I didn't get the same 'exact' angles on the rear.:flipoff2:
Hayraker 05-29-2002, 06:35 PM Side shot, tube bed support is tied to cage.
Hayraker 05-29-2002, 06:40 PM Last picture, Really haven't decided where I am going from here, the bumper was a temporary fix to get on the trails, thinking of removing the remaining rear sheet metal and putting flat sides over the tube, if not I will add another tube that ties to the quarter panel making a round lip.
Hayraker 05-30-2002, 01:50 PM What, nobody's gonna tell me how much my fab skills suck:D , come awwn, I'm bored, I tweaked my back pulling out my rear 44 and trying to slide the d60 under it by myself, so I am self medicating with beer and motrin in front of the puter.
jdjanda 05-30-2002, 02:32 PM Oh boy a drunk and drugged redneck with a computer. This ought to be fun.
BTW, the rigs is not nearly as ugly in green.

Ahhh, yes, nothing like flat paint to hide the boo-boos.
Of course, as my "friends" were so kind to point out this weekend there does come a point where flat black just doesn't hide the dents any more... http://www.snort4x4.com/YaBBImages/tooth.gif
Hayraker 05-30-2002, 03:55 PM I cut off as many dents as I could, and still needed flat paint, I like the looks of it much better green, don't know why I didn't do it a long time ago.
troutbum 05-31-2002, 09:35 AM Don't get me wrong it is ugly as fawk...but it does look better did you tie the outers to the inners or do they just flap?
Hayraker 05-31-2002, 04:14 PM Not enough left of the outers to flap, haven't tied them in yet, but it is in the plans, will run another tube along the outers and cap off the ends, someday.
RustoleumWhite 06-03-2002, 09:37 AM ya meen like this :D

scoutver5.7 06-03-2002, 01:15 PM Hey Hayraker,
That thing is still uuuuuuuuugggggggllllllllllllyyyyyyyyy as all get out, but it does look better than it did.

 Thanks! :D
I still need to get a "glamour" photo of my ugliest Scout with it's back-to-back Ugliest Truck awards.. and Best Use of Plating award. :D
Pansy seemed to think at least my tow-rig won't be winning Ugliest Truck this year.. tho' since Erik Stude is no longer a candidate for Ugliest Truck (I think it's going to be called the Erik Stude Award or something now) at RMIHR, I may be in the running with the racer again. :(
TERRA-IZER 06-03-2002, 08:09 PM RustoleumWhite, looks good you will love the new departure angle. And Tsm1mt they have been talking about naming that award after Eric for 2 years, I talked to Eric last night and he said he was going to start retiring the old scout soon, but he's been saying that for the last year (its still in 1 piece with 3 flat tires, some wiring problems, and a bent spring), since RMIR is so soon, i'am sure he will bandaid it and have her up there, i just wouldn't be the same with out that beat up turd up there.
IHC4B 06-30-2004, 08:38 AM beat up turd!!? what are you calling a beat up turd. oh wait a second you're right
troutbum 06-30-2004, 09:47 AM wtf is with raising dead posts, btw finished the bob about 2 years ago, same time this post was finished....:flipoff2:
Snoopy 06-30-2004, 12:33 PM I've posted this before, and I'll post it again. This is Terra-Izer's as of 3 years ago. Still one of the best bob jobs I've ever seen.
Rock Star 06-30-2004, 12:52 PM IHC4b, You New IH is prretty bobbed uh? probably more then most of these rigs. Shouldnt have any problems clearing the "ledges" or small children either.
The thing about these rigs is that they can still haul the goats and chickens, you can only haul two bazooka Tubes in yours!!! Bob Jobs are great but if you really want clearence just cut the whole thing off at the front seats and tube it or get it tubed by someone with a tape measure! Go big or Go home. p.s. Terra-izer's rig is sweet.
Rock Star 06-30-2004, 12:57 PM Hey TERRA-IZER, Why dont you plant your feet on the terra-firma and put some paint on that terra for the RMIHR???? I am thinking a sweet little lemon/Lime combo or even a RED feather design or maybe a RED/Black two tone combo like your buddy's rig.
Make sure you have the Gas cans and NOS on board as well!!!!
GO 35's? nope GOT 46's!
TERRA-IZER 06-30-2004, 04:18 PM Paint is over rated, plus i haven't had time to work on the Terra in over 2 years its going to the RMIHR the same way it was last year and the year before, i might wash it. Who do i know that has a 2 tone red and black scout? I allready have one terra with the gay feather design on it. Lime green is over done, it will be blue and silver if i ever paint it. Why would i go 35's when i have 37's.
75scoutCo 06-30-2004, 05:04 PM I bobed mine 11" and keep the leaf springs. I can e-mail you pics if you want. (I have not learned how to post them yet). It turned out allright for someone who had never done anything like that before.

Speaking of which ~ are you going to get that Ram-assist on that before RMIHR????
Snoopy 07-01-2004, 11:58 AM .... i haven't had time to work on the Terra in over 2 years its going to the RMIHR the same way it was last year and the year before, i might wash it.
Work is work ~ you have to make time for personal stuff. Speaking of which, the MJ buggy we finished yesterday will be at Indy on Monday ~ if you have free time, come on down ~ I might drop by either way.
75scoutCo 07-01-2004, 04:15 PM Thanks for the pics Damien, I was hoping to get the ram assist done before then, But the money has been tight lately. I think I am going to just get the rockstomper kit and bring it down to you to drill and tap the steering box.
Snoopy 07-01-2004, 08:47 PM Sounds good. Email me and we'll work it out to your advantage ;)
