this is all i have to use for the 231 minus the spring (mode spring) and cover; also is the shift fork supposed to have some kind of pads. Per the dealership they'e supposed to but the ones they gave me don't go on there:confused: also do i need any part of this:

as you can see this one has pads, according to the dealership both the shift fork and the mode fork use the same pads, but they don't???? any insight from somebody who done this kit...

this 231 came from 04 TJ, i bought the whole kit from MVDSLUT here on PBB...

There are 3 pads on the range fork but it looks like they're installed already. :confused:

Make sure to use plenty of RTV around BOTH SIDES of the clocking ring on the second case and also where the clocking ring meets the adapter plate, and also put a little dab around the head of the screw that holds the shift rail in place. Blue loc-tite on the clocking ring bolts is important too. I just had mine out on the rocks for the first time over the weekend and it held up great, but there are a few spots where I could have sealed it better. Skid plate had an ATF puddle on it by the end of the day although the sight tube I installed still showed a decent amount of fluid.

My picture server is down right now, but I would definitely recommend installing a sight tube from the lower drain plug to the upper (unused) fill plug.

vetteboy...the range fork won't come off the guide rod (3rd pic)...i'm assuming i don't use it correct??? 1st and 2nd there are no pads installed, i feels like the gear had been riding on the shift fork w/o a pad...if you have any pics that would be awesome...

The range fork is the small aluminum one, the mode fork is the larger one. That one is fixed to the shaft by a roll pin IIRC and you don't use it or the old shift rod...the Box4Rox kit comes with the new shift rod that is shorter and has the threaded hole.

If you look in the second pic, directly below the stub shaft, there's a different color area. That should be the pad that rides in that groove. One of the pictures I have shows what happens when those are gone (half the fork is worn away).

A note about that new shift rod - don't hammer it in all the way, or else it'll be down too far and you won't be able to put the outer screw in. Let it stick up slightly and use the adapter plate to press it down (then put RTV around the bolt head).

Hello, I am in the middle of this swap and in looking at your pictures my case(Range fork) looks diffrent than your pic's do you see this as being a problem?

Nope, that's just the older style fork. I run one of those in mine. You'll be fine with that.

that last pic looks like mine also , i just got it togther and so far it seems to work well.
