: HP Dana 44 WMS????
inphobic 05-29-2002, 11:31 AM I am putting full widths under my EB and I am looking for a HP D44 with disc brakes. I think I am looking for a 76/77 axle from a P/U. I have been trying to find actual measurements of wms to wms. I have seen anything from 64.75" to 67.75" I have also seen other posted but I think it's in this range of truth... Does anyone know for sure what this particular axle measures? Any help would be appreciated. I also have a wanted ad posted here on pirates if anybody knows where I can pick one up cheap! Thanks, Jake
Whiplash 05-29-2002, 01:30 PM Just measured mine. Its a Dana44 HP with disc brakes and welded on C mounts from a supposedly 76 F150. WMS to WMS is 65.5". The matching 9" rearend is 65" WMS to WMS.
I am going to try to do the same thing, so sorry to barge into your post, but do you know if you can get a HP dana 44 with disc brakes and a 9" rear with a big bearing housing off of a fulsize f150? IF so, what year, and are they easy to find at a junkyard?
Sorry to barge into your post:(
thanks

That's what mine HP44 is. If you use 250 outers they get 2"-3" wider.
inphobic 05-30-2002, 05:51 AM Thanks for the help guys. I think that's where my confusion started is nobody posted what axle they were measuring, just a dana 44. Hell 5 inches is all the wider those are from the bronco that should be just about perfect.
does anybody have a pic of what the cast radius arm wedges look like on the later bronco ones? I think I can make it work and since it already has disc be cheaper.
Thanks, Jake

EMSOFFROAD, where is the extra width gained? Is the hub just a wider unit?

Inphobic, I don't have any pics but the later ones are hard to modify. The front and rear C mounts are one piece that join the 2 piece axletubes together. Yes, the bone heads at Ford used 1 axletube to go between the axle housing and the cast wedge and another seperate tube for between the wedge and the knuckle.
inphobic 05-30-2002, 09:15 AM Well it sounds like I should stick to the advice I recieved and get a pre 78 and put disc brakes on it. Thanks for the good info. Jake

Jake depends on what your building. If your anal or building a pretty rig like Fearme's old EB then you want the moveable c-bush mounts. The only advantages I see is a more tire clearance & the opportunity to change your castor.
If your not particular then get what's available and slap it in there. Budda Bing, your done and wheeling. Thats what I did, check it out:

When I compare a 79 F150 against a 79 F250: Short side of the axle shafts are the same, except different groves on the 19 spline outer part. Fot the long side inner axle shaft the F250 is ~1 inch longer.
As Far as I can tell the axle shafts are the same for F100 and F150's from 73-79, I'll double check tonight.
inphobic 05-31-2002, 12:47 PM MR N, If you could find out what axles will interchange in dana 44 housings that would be good info to know.

Like what?
Ford EB and F150 / F100 have the stub inner axle shaft with in 1/4" of each other.
Ford IFS and 80's Full Size Jeep have stub shaft with in 1/8" of each other ( A great source of cheap axle shafts if your shorting)
I want to know if all 73-79 F150 and F100's have the same axle shaft, I'm collecting shafts to find out. So far they are the same.
