A friend just got a new 02 F250 7000 miles ago. He has had the oil change when ever the little sticker says.
ok here we go
The dealer says change oil every 5000 miles.
International says change oil every 3500 miles.
We figure he has been towing 10000lbs in cows around for about 500 miles at a time, several times this last couple thousand miles.
Our question is.
Who should we listen to and should towing have any affect on this??
My advise was to change it every 3500 miles for maybe the first 20 or 30 thousand miles of the trucks life, and then go 5000 between every oil change.
any help will be appreciated
did a search didnt see anything
thanks again

with the type of load you say he is puttin on it that often I would have to go with 3500, thats me, I would just want to protect a 40k rig if ya know what Im sayin!!!

I tow quite a bit with my '99 PSD and resolved myself to changing the oil and filter every 3500 miles. Oil is cheap! :flipoff2: :D

I put 140,000 miles on a PSD in 2 years towing often and sometimes over 30,000 lbs gross, in outrageously dusty conditions in Nevada, in extreme temps from -35 to 115 and i changed the oil every 5,000 miles. The truck now has over 220,000 miles on it and is as strong as ever. The new diesels just dont contaminate the oil like the old ones did.

I have a 97 PSD w/112k on it. I have always changed the oil as close to 3000 miles as possible. Maybe overkill, but it runs strong as ever and I swear it runs better with fresh oil. I have always heard that the direct injected diesels like the PSD rely on clean oil for best performance. Even at 3k oil changes, the oil is black as tar. I vote for 3500 between changes.

The motor warrenty is actually not through Ford but rather through IH. I would listen to IH.

All the older oil-burners have two listings, heavy duty and normal. Heavy ie lots of idle, towing near GVRW, extended highway miles, extream temps, ect. I think my 6.9 says 2500 miles for heavy, and 5000 for normal.
Also all Deisel oil will turn black as soon as you run it, due to all the detergents in it.

If you look at the IH T444E data sheet it claims 10,000mile oil change intervals. But it does not state wheter you have to use a bypass filter system to achieve those numbers. I change my oil every 7500-10000 kms (5000-6500miles) and only run Rotella.
