Who can tell me the difference between an 83 sterling 10.25 and a 85 10.25?
The rebuild kits start at 85 and the rear disk conversion kits also start at 85. So wtf is the different between the 2?

I dont think those 2 are diffrent...some of the newer ones have a longer pinion shaft...and in 97? I think they started going to disks..

That is correct, only differences that I have found are the long or short pinion shaft and drum or disk based on year of production. I have not been able to find any differences with my 83.

An 83 10.25 does not exist....
Ford didn't start using them until 85, an 83 would have had a D70 from the factory, no saying that a swap hasn't occoured along the line tho.

83 was the first year they were used, the doner truck was an 83 F-250 with a 460, T-19, TTB front end and a 10.25. Dana 70s were used but this truck had the high GVWR.

85' was the first year for a sterling, not 83'. Disks were offered on Metric 10.5's around 97'.

Discs and metric came in together, with the 99 MY Super Duties.

Diddo, sterling didn't come till mid year 85, same time as solid 60's in the 350's.

Thanks to everyone for their info!

I now have the answer to my question. There is no difference between an 83 & 92 10.25.:D
A lot of people think that Ford first used the 10.25 in 85 that is why pinion kits and disk conversion start at 85. . Nope sorry it was first used in 83:flipoff2:
If you still think that I am full of BS check these links

Anyone ever found a NP205 in a 83 or new Ford?

nope, ford switched to chain cases in 80, but you can swap in a 205 using all factory components other than changing driveshafts.

Also those first to links didn't even have the correct info on the 9" as far as what the came in, gears etc. plus everything you rread on the net has to be true right? lol, if someone can provide a picture of one in an pre 85 truck that'd sure solve the issue.
