I want to upgrade the roll cage on my YJ. I'm thinking that taking it to a fab shop and getting a whole new roll cage custom built and tied to the frame would be the best route to take.
Is this actually the best way to do it? Any tips on what I should get? Anyone know of a good fab shop in the San Jose, CA area?

I'm not familiar with YJ cages but you can go to Arabia's Overkill San Jose/Campbell, the owner does awesome work and is a really cool guy. I recently had gears and lockers installed on my LJ, they found that my drive shaft had a huge dent. They replaced it with one from another project for free. I've had friends take their rigs there and the work that is done has been top notch.

Yes.

HREW or DOM. I would step over into the hard core section. Dig around until you find the topic titled 'cage inspiration' this should give you an idea of what other people are running.... and why door bars and triangulation are essential to a sturdy cage.

If you have youngsters to cart around in the back seat, or you need the doors easily accessable, etc. be sure to explain this to the fab shop during the design of your cage. If you have the means to, you might want to look at some of the shop's work. Try to find a rig with a cage similar in design to what you want and sit in it, bounce up and down to check head clearance, etc.

Best of luck with the purchase.
