My disk brakes keep getting really hot and eventually lock up on me. My question is does it matter where the caliper is mounted. I did the disk brake conversion on the 14 bolt myself and am wondering. I read an artical on this page that said the caliper had to be facing the back of the vehicle. Could this be causing my problem. Would the lack of proportioning valve cause the brakes not to release. Thanks for the help

I don't see why it would matter with Disk as to where the caliper is except for bleeding purposes.
However, the rear should only receive some of the braking pressure and without a proportioning valve, you are sending equal ammounts to the front and rear.

Did you remove the residual pressure valve?
Hit the link?

You didn't pull the check valve out from the rear-brake port on the master cylinder, did you? ;)

Ditto the previous reply, but are you running the drum rear master cylinder? Wheel cylinders require a residual valve that on some vehicles are built into the master cylinder. The valve retains pressure to overcome the heavy springs on drum/wheel cylinders. Some vehicle use a combination valve for this purpose and it would be plumbed downstream of the master cylinder. Regardless, you gotta remove the residual valve.
As far as proportioning valves go, if the calipers are different on the rear, and the most likely are, you may need a prop valve to compensate for the fluid volume/pressure need to stop without lock up. Semi floating (sliding type) calipers require less pressure than the typical full floating(front) calipers.

I have not removed the residual check valve or anything like that. How will i know if it is in the master or not. i have hydro-boost brakes not vacum. Again thanks a lot for the help. This is relly starting to piss me off.

Hold on Trkwld! Are ALL the brakes dragging or just the rear? Sometimes the hydraboost units go wacky and start applying (dragging) the brakes by themselves. My Jimmy was playing this game this past winter; made it tough to get home that night.
'Not really sure what fails on them. I partially disassembled mine but I couldn't see anthing wrong. Had another unit laying around so it got swapped out.
But the rest of the posters are right about the residual valve thing...
