I have an fj40 that has been worked over. V-8, 700r4. As you can imagine the length is long under the frame. I have shoved everything to the front as far as it can go but the rear drive line is very short. I want to push the axel back a bit, 2-3 inches to help the angle of the driveline and length. What springs work best for this.

depending on what springs you have you can flip the rear springs and gain about 2.5" - 3"

You can also move the spring and shackle hangers back for a coulpe more inch's.

I gained 9" in the rear just by doing this...not even flipping the springs. Check out the 99" fj40 link in my signature for my build thread.

I had the same problem I spun my leaf springs that helped a lot, now I am installing spun fj 60 springs in the rear.

What springs work the best?
Coilover springs. :flipoff2:
I ran 5-leaf Waggy's in mine, 22.5" on the short side, 24.5 on the long. They flex great, but don't have a military wrap, and need an anti-wrap bar.

I have a 700R4/np203/3sp LC case for a driveline. Flipped the springs and flipped the spring hangers. It added about 7". Some folks are mounting the spring hanger on the back of their rig. Here is a link with some pics:
http://www.lslc.org/austin/bios/blumenthal/Dulciena.html I only had to cut 1" off my d-shaft.:smokin:
If you flip your springs, you will need to flip the 2nd from the top spring so your top spring will not bend into 90 degree mess. To redrill the hole, go to home depot and get a 5/16 carbide bit and run your drill press at about 400rpms to get through it. Also you will need to look into a traction bar for your back axle. If you don't you run the risk of breaking your pinion shaft because the spring flex will radically change your pinion angle.

blue ones of course! :flipoff2:
jk. i have a small block and th700 in my rig. 55 springs seem to be the way to go. you can use the stock hangers and shackles in conjunction with special bushings made/sold by sor.:cool2:

I know coil over is the best way to go. I am going to do this first on a Dodge so if I botch the job it is only a Dodge. The question is what is the length difference if the 40 springs and the 55,60 springs and are they not at a higher spring rate due to the vehicle weight? Does this matter or are they very close?
