do you have to fit into a class to run baja? ive been debating what to build. i had just about settled on a jeepspeed but since i dont live anywhere near any of the season races it really doesnt matter if it meets class rules or not. so, now we are thinking of using parts we already have to build a desert racer just for baja and a shakedown race or two. say i put a small block chevy in a jeep and do whatever i want to the suspension. can i still race baja in some class? i dont care about being competitive in that class, just finishing and having lots of fun along the way. TIA

I think there is a sportsman class that you could run.

Yes, you can run sportsman but you will still need to pass the safety inspection.

thats what i figured. what would be a better choice (i.e.- more fun)? having a chance at being competitive in jeepspeed or just being able to haul ass but probably not be competitive in sportsman. for baja only mind you.

A competitive Jeepspeed would probably win in most SCORE sportsman class. Sportsman is a high DNF rate class. It seems that even when people are allowed to do whatever they want to suspension and engine it does nothing for how well they can finish races. I dont think the extra power will help much to justify going chevy v8 in a short Jeep.

so what about small single seat baja buggies. Probably similar size to rhinos and the trophycarts but single seat.
