I'm no expert but looks like a 551 to me. Best gunfight in a movie? Does BlackHawk Down count, cause I think it would own that sence.

Its definately an FNC. Unless youre trying to extend TRH's attempt at being funnay :flipoff2: Then its a Sig-47 chambered in 12.7x99.

well I said I wasn't an expert :flipoff2:

Still think BHD has better gunfights.

I liked the mezzanine shootout in Matrix 1, when they are going to save Morpheus. The huey / gatlin gun scene is a nice finish. But I'm a sci-fi nerd.

Agreed. Heat, et al. all have excellent gunfight scenes.

Aloha: Go add Collateral to your queue on Netflix right behind Heat. Just trust me and do it. Another excellent source of somewhat realistic gunfights.

I like the Matrix films, but they're too far beyone realistic to enjoy the way Heat, Collateral, etc, can. Shooter, that new one that is probably in the cheap theatres now, is also supposedly phenomenal when it comes to gunfights/sniping. :)

The final shootout from Equilibrium was better in the sci fi realm of gunfights.

Those two screwballs in the North Hollywood Shootout supposedly watched Heat alot before they unleashed their carnage.

The Armor Car scene in that movie is pretty bad ass too... "double tap entry wound to the sternum...."

The "Classical" gunfight was 1st seen in "High Noon" with Gary Cooper, all the rest are special effect emblellished redos/renditions... :D

I thought that when I was watching the clip. Of course they ended up being shot while hiding behind cars- like the cops in the movie.

I agree with Doc about the scene from way of the gun, best use of a pump shotgun.

As for western shoot outs, Unforgiven and The Wild Bunch have good scenes.

Eh.. Shooter was O.K. but it was all so unrealistic. Repeated headshots on moving targets at 800 to 1,000 yards  It could've been done much better. The book was much better than the movie (Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter) They took out so much of the story just to get it down to 2ish hours for the theatre that I think they ruined it..

Unforgiven is one of my all time favorites, but not just for the shootouts.. its just an all around excellent movie :smokin:

Wild bunch was cool... First movie that they showed blood when the guys got "hit"

Worst ever was "Desperado" (I think that was the name). Antonio Banderas and the hot mexican chick. The rocket-launching and machine gun guitar cases were a little over the top.

if so they would have learned some very important facts  but this is proof they did not because if they did they would have known:

Shoot, Move, Communicate.
Buddy/fire team rushing/over-bounding

well they did learn one fact from the movie:
If your group breaks off into an individual you will get killed
so maybe they did pay attention  :flipoff2:

the movie "44 minutes" is a reenactment of the north hollywood shootout. it is worth watching but nothing spectacular. it had michael madsen and mario van peeples in it.

Which version of Unforgiven theres 2. I assume that were talking the Eastwood version... ;)

Personally Im kinda partial to the shoot outs inTombstone involving Doc Holiday (Val Kilmer). Neat aspect of the flick proper is that its reasonably accurate historically ( for a change).

Yes the gunfights are terrible, but Desperado, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico are just fun to watch. Johnny Depp's character in Once Upon a Time in Mexico is goddamn hilarious.

Watch it and laugh your ass off when explains "keeping the balance."

Tombstone is not historically accurate. They don't even mention Old Man Clanton, nor Indian Charlie.

Thats why I qualified with the word *reasonably* in my comment... ;) :D

That said, even the "historical" documents used by many historians to document /argue their version of history needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Given that most times the documentation used tends to be 1st person orations by individuals with inflated egos of the time to writers concerned about sales to eastern markets (AKA penny dreadfuls), newpapers in need of news or "occasionally" maybe a diary entry wirtten by again an individual with an inflated ego.

Add a pinch of Hollywood embelishment to the mix and we get "High Noon" shootouts, Hopalong Cassidy, Roy Rogers, Gene Audry, John Wayne etc. flicks. The current genre of westerns just adds more special effects to an already overly dramatized "legend"...:D

I heard somewhere that this shootout was one of the most historically accurate that had been filmed. I'm not sure how they drew that conclusion, but it is a good fight. I enjoyed the movie, thought the actors did a good job.

my favorites

1. open range...watch it on a surround sound system and you can feel the blast from costners winchester...BOOM!!.

2. heat. all of it.lol

3. thin red line...bunker assault scene (best use of a 1911a1:) )

4. we were soldiers...pretty much all of it. (really like the scenes about the "lost" squad that is fighting @ point blank range.) heard interviews from the veterans...they said it was about 99% accurate and choked them up when watching it, due to the accuracy.

i'd say so.... the way costners charactor says, "once you've used both tubes on the shotgun, just drop it."

and also, other than aimed, deliberate shots (first shot of gunfight, point blank) most are misses, even at 10-15 yards.

and also, also..lol... the fact that rifle shots are more productive on the whole, than pistol shots seems accurate. theres no across the street sharpshooting with a revolver (a la silverado, desperado, young guns, etc.)

Not a movie, but some of the scenes from Band of Brothers. When they are assualting the gun positions on June 6th, and then some of the scenes from their jump into Belgium.

Yes, the Eastwood version. Tombstone is excellent also..

Open Range was great acting and action wise... But I think they went a little overboard on the power of that shotgun... IIRC, they had guys flying through walls after getting hit with it

i have to say, that i think you're incorrect, as i have watched this movie like 20 times....:emb: :emb:

in the final gun battle, boss is inside the fertilizer shed, gut shot, reloading his weapons. he see's a shadow or some movement outside the shed and shoots THROUGH the wood wall and hits a B.G. on the outside, knocking him down....thats what i remember anyways... :D

COLLATERAL. Also an excellent flick. Sure, parts are a bit hard to swallow, but on the whole the gunfights are excellent.

Shooting from retention? Reloading his USP when it would actually run dry? What novel ideas... :D

My personal pet-peeves in modern hollywood gunfights are many, but these are the worst:

1. When a gun locks open, they cut to another angle, and he continues firing it
2. A 'cocking-hammer' sound dubbed into the film whenever someone produces a Glock.
3. The infamous 'interrogation' scene where the protagonist holds someone at gunpoint, makes a threatening statement, and then racks the slide and we learn that he's a moron, because his gun had an empty chamber the whole time...

:banging head on wall:

When you watch Open Range for the 21st time ( :D) count how many shots come out of the 6 shooter Costner uses after he whaks the "hired gun" in the head in one shot during the "High Noon" style showdown at the end... ;) :D :D

That said another goodun fer a "showdown" is "Quigley down under". The scene with the 3 standing of against 1 is good with the line Sellek makes to the wannabe Aussie "Hickock" , "Said I didn't have much use fer one didn't say I didnt know how to use one." being one of the best in the flick. That said, think Ive watched Quigley at least the same number times you've watched Open range... :D

the end scene of Children Of Men when they are running through the city while the army fights the rebels. i really thought it was well done. sound quality, visual, realism, pretty good one. don't know if it's the best but it's fresh in my mind.
