Okay, bit the bullet and ordered a new Detroit. Its on its way. So with my new 4.56 gearset and Detroit, I can install this setup just like Billavista Dana 60 gear set up in tech right? Same procedures and all?
Anything i need to look out for with the Detroit?
This is going to be my first gear change out, if it all goes good, I will do regear and Detroit my 14 bolt next.

my suggestion...... you should have started with the 14bolt. simply because its easier to set up. that way you could get a feel for it before you do your 60. just my opinion though. i just finished my 14FF a week or two ago. billavista's tech article was definetly a life saver. good luck with the setup. just be patient, its worth learning how to do.

here's a suggestion to make your life easier while doing the setup
buy a second outer pinion bearing and use a carbide bit on a die grinder to remove just enough material so that it'll slip on and off the pinion while your adjusting pinion depth. it saves the risk of wasting the threads on the pinion from pounding it out of the bearing every time, and ruining a pinion nut trying to thread it onto damaged threads.
it would also be nice to have a pair of "cheater" bearings for the carrier as well. Makes adjusting backlash soooooooo much quicker and easier and keeps you from having to spend big money on the clamshell style bearing pullers.

Will the old bearings work to do the setup?

Yes, many people use the old bearings for setup bearings, occasionally there will be issues though. You may want to measure the difference between the setup bearings and new bearings and compensate with shims. Another suggestion I found was to add a few thousandths to each side for final assembly if using the old bearings for setup.
