I just bought a 2001 Cherokee. I want to get a Safari rack.
I have been looking at Surco and Con-ferr racks. Is a Con-ferr worth the extra $100 or should i just go with the Surco. I am a cheap (but not cheap enough to build my own, would rather spend my time building skid plates, rock sliders and bumpers.) Would like to hear your experiences and opinions on either rack.

Oh and by the way I already did a search

I've been lurking on this board for months, an one thing I learned is that if you ask a question like that you better duck for cover.

Seriously, check out www.NAXJA.org It is a great site for Cherokee (and Commanche) owners that is full of very knowledgeable people. And they won't bite your head off. Someone on NAXJA actually just did a very complete review of all the Safari racks, do a search over there.

Oh sh!t it's our Thursday entertainment:eek:

You don't come to the most dedicated hard core rock crawling website on the net and ask "which pre-fabbed roof rack will be the coolest for my 2001 mall crawler?". You just don't. Got dayum you're dumb. Better put your fire suit on there.

On a serious not I like whichever rack you can fit the most KC lights on. That way you can light up the parking lot and look for your boyfriend when he's playing hide and seek with you.

Oh that was good Big dude, oh stop hurting my feelins, you told this Newbie how it is. You think that you impressed your friends? lol
You're so right how many KC's can you fit, I figure I could mount 45 maybe even 50 lights, oh what about one of those hi lift jack thingies? that would look cool, think I could get it in chrome?

You know you are right if I had no life I probably would have all the time in the world to fabricate everything.

No hard feelings big dude, I am sure i burned you as well as you burned me:p

So anyone have anything constructive to say?

Wrong answer. :flipoff2:

I work full time and still find plenty of time to fabricate pretty much anything I need, just like most of the other members on this board.

Anyways, it really is a dumb question. Save yourself the $100 and get the damn surco since you were so concerned about it in the first place.

You don't need to get defensive. I thought that you could take it as well as dish it. oh i am sorry you misunderstood me. i never said that you were unemployed crack smoker?. Don't get me wrong. Can we still be friends?:flipoff2:
And your right I should just go to the mall and steal two shopping carts and weld them to my roof and call it a fabricated roof rack. Thanks for straighten me out. Oh one more question big dude you fabricate your shocks or do you buy them? So kiss my arse.

Has anyone used a Kargo Master safari rack?

Disclaimer: Sorry if I have ruffed any feathers. It is all in good fun right?

I wasn't trying to impress anyone. I was merely trying to make the point that you asked a stupid question and this is the wrong website for your idea of *tech*. The reply was for you and that's why I quoted you at the beginning of it (just like now:flipoff2: )

I also work full time, stay in shape, compete, work on other peoples rigs, fab what I need, etc. So I guess that means I have no life  Good one. Walk onto this site and talk down to those who fabricate,, have a nice day, dumbass.

How did you burn me again:confused: Stupid newbies:flipoff2:

I guess the general consensus is that any question about a bolt-on part is a stupid question. Sorry for polluting the forum. I hope you have the heart to forgive me for my ignorant question.
I really just want to be a Granite Guru:cool: I guess I should have spent my last nine months shooting my mouth off instead of listening(reading), maybe I would be a Wheeler by now:rolleyes:
How many more times do i have to shoot off my mouth before I become a Wheeler? Is the magic number 100?
Well till then I guess I will keep asking my dumbass Newbie questions and maybe someday they will become stupid Wheeler questions and then maybe when all of the planets align I will be an enlightened Granite Guru. Oh that day will be pure glory:)

Oh I guess this is the wrong time to ask if there is a market for Beer can shifter nobs? Why not bring the two most natural things together. (a shifter and a beer can) You think that $20 is too much to ask. Maybe I would expand in Pint bottles and beer bottles.:smokin:

Man, you aren't learing very quickly , are you? Shit man, it's ok to be a newbie but wise up a bit. JU is closed for the weekend, but go to the Cherokee board on Monday and look up a thread that was posted less than 20 days ago by AthlonXJ ( I think ). He fabbed up a nice rack and will make one for ya' for about $250.00.

Been there done that along time ago, maybe i should go read it again. I need a good laugh.

It may be about your attitude but it isn't about knowledge.
It is about how many times you post. If it was about knowledge then there should a test you could take to see your ranking. I am not new to the sport just to the board. Use your mind before your mouth.

Damn you now i am all worked up:rolleyes:

And off the subject, But i am closer to being a wheeler i guess that means i am learning.

this idiot would get flamed on JU. Dude, if you want a rack, buyin ones fine, but go do your own research keep your mouth shut unless it's an honest question, not what should i spend my yuppie money on. Somehow you stupid ass made it to this forum, so u should be able to find the conferr and surco websites. Buy the one you want and shut up. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I was at their sites along time ago I just wanted to know if it was going to rust or fall apart. DURIBLITY? This was my last stop not my first like the average jackass. Remember start at the bottom not at the top. I'm sorry you thought that I asked If mat finish or gloss would be look cooler.
Or wherther the fawking thing will get me pu$$y. Could care least
I really wanted to know if i could throw all of my friends and my mountaineering gear (500 lbs+)on top with crushing my "mall runner." There are more then one way to the top of a mountain, I sometimes like to climb instead of crawl.
It is no different then asking if one suspension works better then another. Which that is a popular question itself.

You really should ask all XJ questions there before here, they are much nicer, and just as knowledgeable in regards to the XJ. In fact many of them frequent this board as well. But whether here or there, ALWAYS do a search first.

muddyxj

well, obviously you didn't look at the site well enough, as the Surco rack is aluminum, thus rusting isn't too likely. Second, its not a good question. Asking US what to buy, is not a good question. Next, why do you think your search turned up no results? If you looked at the forum, you'd realize that's not the type of question asked here. Finally, the best way to make friends isn't to give back snotty remarks when you get flamed for a dumb question. Learn from your mistake, and look elsewhere. I may be a newbie, but i'm learning the ways, not blindly posting shit. to answer your question, buy a con-ferr, as surco is held together by pop-rivets, and the aluminum is simply not as strong as the steel conferr rack. the conferr also has better workmanship and construction. However, the conferr is more expensive, as the rack itself is more than the surco, then you have to add in the floor kit and any extras you would like.

dude, keep digging your grave That was a lame question and you are too damn stubborn to admit it. As someone said if you searched the forum you would realize why there was no stupid question about which rack to buy. Here is some common sense...buy the one you want after researching the websites of different rack mfgs...point is you should have asked Jeeves first.

God damn you just know it all. Obviously you didn't search my previous posts like I suggested. Well I'll enlighten you- I work for a mining company here in FL. You'd be amazed what can be found 80-100 ft deep in FL. And when it's found it gets dumped in one big area (hint.... It's not sand.... another hint..... It's composite limestone)

Some more for you-
running gear= 1-ton (not available on stock Jeeps but very desirable newbie)
Suspension= Wagonneer (Jeep as far as everyone else is concerned, but you're right not YJ)
Motor/trans/t-case/Tub= YJ

I'll go read your previous posts and see what kind of tech you contribute. Then you go read mine and see the tech I've contributed. After that we'll see who should *STAY OFF* the jeep board. About trailering- Never complained, I love it. Competitions and large wheeling areas are north of FL so why would I complain. I'm just happy that at 23 I have a career which affords me enough cash to have a built Jeep, trailer, and new tow rig. Also I don't think you were being an asshole in you're previous post, but basing someones wheeling experience etc. on where they live shows a lack of intelligence. I just wanted to enlighten you and say suck my d!ck know it all.

Anytime you want to take a vacation to FL I'd be happy to show you my playground, take your rig on it, whatever. Although I don't know if your junk would be up to it, unless you get a cool roof rack like the guy you're sticking up for.

Just thought I'd reply so you could get the facts straight :p . My rig does not need to be trailered, I choose to trailer it because I can afford to. I don't know anyone in their right mind who would choose to ride in their rig to the trail vs. cruising in a LT Tahoe with all the trimmings (that includes all rigs- not just Jeeps). Towing rigs provides multiple benefits besides a comfy, cush ride. The fact that you don't seem to realize this shows you're not into the kind of wheeling we do here (interpretted as very extreme for the most part). A trailer provides a guaranteed way to get your rig and yourself home should something catastrophic happen (like multiple roll-overs, drivetrain explosion, anything you could think of). The fact that you seem to talk down on those who trailer rigs portrays a small bit of envy on your part. Perhaps you're just jealous because you can't afford to do it;)

All the flaming aside let's get real for a moment. It was suggested that another board might be a better place to ask. I agree. Who cares if this is or isn't a :rainbow: question. It's not a good question for here.

Why?

1) not too many people on this board know that much about bolt on roof racks. Most would just buy whatever and not give it as much thought as they would axle, or suspension selection.

2) not that many here care much about roof racks.

With all the above info including mine why waste your breath still? If you have a custom suspension, or welding question this is a great board. If you want to know about roof racks go to the other ones that are better roof rack boards. No biggie.
