: Anyone run beadlocks on the street?

My 4Runner is my DD, and I need new wheels. I am thinking about going with 15x8 beadlocks for my 12.50's, but I was wondering if anyone has them on a DD? I know they are not street legal, but I see it as a minor risk. Can you balance them? Do the bolts have to be torqued frequently? I thought I had seen a post on this once before, but couldn't find it.

When I drive mine on the street I check the bolts twice a week...They ride better unbalanced than my old 10's with weights....There was a post in the General section a few weeks ago about it...

I run them on my daily driver. No problems at all. I never worry about checking the bolts....anytime one comes loose I can tell cause I lose air, pretty simple.

OK, one more question. I have been looking at the Rockstomper bead locks already installed on the rims. Does anyone know if these come totally painted and everything, or do they need painting before installation?

I run champion beadlocks on my rig (was a dd) balance fine, no bolt probs.

They come unpainted--between OSHA, EPA, and just simple quality issues, we said "enough" on the paint thing, and just don't do it any more.

As for running them on the street, I regularly do. No problems, but depending on your local jurisdiction, they may or may not be happy about it. My local cops take no issue with it at all... and I'm running an exocaged open-wheel "truck". :)

IMHO - asking people all over the country how the local cops where you live in KY are gonna react is kinda silly :p

Here in TN - I have yet of hearing of any of our KY neighbors being hassled about beadlocks...

I wasn't asking how the cops are gonna react. I was asking about balancing and bolt torque. I really don't think the cops here would know the difference anyway to be honest with you.

My MRT's balanced fine, and the bolts stayed tight for thr year or so I ran them.

Balancing is no problem, just use sticky weights instead of clippy ones.

I think I retorque mine maybe once every three or four months.

I run bead locks on my truck, and although it doesn't get driven on the street very often, I've had no trouble. They do leak down a little, just keep an eye on the torque of the bolts. Every few trail runs is fine.

I seem to remember a discussion on legality with regard to beadlocks a while back. Don't think it's much of an issue anywhere. I also think I remember some info on a website about legality, maybe Champion, or someone like that - can't remember for sure right now.

Mine do fine on road though.

hey thanks for all the info guys. i have had my beadlocks for exactly a year and i have yet to check the bolts! :emb: maybe i should do that this weekend. but anyway, since i mounted them i've only had one that constantly leaks. it's kinda a pita but iv'e gotten used to it so i have yet to fix it. i do drive it on the street but really only fairly short distances. oh yeah, btw mine are the cheap eaton beadlocks fyi
