: 60 series sliders
muddogbob 05-29-2002, 08:22 PM I need some rocker protection for my fj62. I know a lot of guys out there are building thier own, and i'm trying to figure out some different designs. What works and what doesn't? Pics would be great. Oh yea, i'm looking for something a little better than the article on ih8mud. Thanks for the help guys.
COMPLAINE 05-30-2002, 09:03 AM try www.4x4labs.com in Grass Valley (Luke and Allan) have developed a good design for the 60 Series.
r77toy 05-30-2002, 03:42 PM Check your mail, I sent you some pics of some .
Sloan 05-30-2002, 09:29 PM Can you email me some of those pics?
muddogbob 05-30-2002, 09:34 PM thanks for the pics. are those custom or do you get them through a supplier? how much? I've already talked to 4x4labs and they said they like to cut out the entire rocker and weld in steel. This would be ideal, but it's not worth $1000. I just need some solid protection. Thanks
r77toy 05-31-2002, 12:30 AM Sloan, you've seen 'em ,down by the blimp :D
I didn't want to come on here pimpin my stuff:beer:
muddogbob, they sell for $460 plus shipping.
muddogbob 05-31-2002, 04:47 PM pimp away! now all i need to know is where to get them?
r77toy 05-31-2002, 05:17 PM p.m. or email me, I'll hook ya up.
Cruiser Ken 05-31-2002, 07:12 PM r77toy, you do 80 series sliders as well? $460 sounds a lot better than the $695 Cristo wants.
Sloan 05-31-2002, 10:01 PM Ah ha, I thought they looked familiar. What's up? I gotta admit, these are nice sliders.
r77toy 06-01-2002, 06:53 AM Sloan, yes I can build some for your 80 series, if it's single exhaust ,they require no drilling.
sixty 06-01-2002, 02:05 PM r77toy,
send me some pics too:
Corey@pswcarchitects.com
or you can save alot of hassle & post them. I'm sure noone will mind
rustycruiser 06-01-2002, 03:03 PM Post/pimp away. I would like to see them as well.
calfj60 06-01-2002, 06:27 PM Hey r77toy, where you buildin this stuff? at home or at the shop? I may have a couple of quick projects if you wanna do some one of stuff. later
Cruiser Ken 06-01-2002, 06:57 PM r77toy, it was me that wants 'em for my 80 series. Please send me some pics or post them here. Mine is a '94. It has the single cat right behind the passenger side front wheel well.

Cruiser Ken, that '94 should be just like my '93. That "single cat" is really two side by side cats inside the heat shield. A real PITA for tying a slider into the frame on the front right side. The '95-97 have the cats in line so there is a little space between them to get to the frame. But, we did fine a STRONG bolt on solution eventually.
Checkout some pic's of my new sliders - now MOAB tested. :D

They're not just sliders they protect the cat too. I tested them real good late in the day at Moab while not paying attention. I drove off a big step and landed right on the skid plate. They did their job.:D
Here's the passenger side with the cat skid plate (the little dent was "pre" slider;) )

Howdy Tim,
I've been busy getting Knuckles ready for Rubithon after spending all my time (wrenching and wheeling) with Ruby. You've got quite a list under your name so I know you can relate.
One of these days we MUST get our wagons on the trail together!!!
 Cheers

im not sure we said, that is the way we like to do it . but it is one way to do it . and the work that goes into cutting the rockers and welding new material in is a ton of work . we would rather do the tube style that attach to the frame either weld in or bolt in ,you choose . we use a digital bender for accuracy , and bend repeatability , we use all 1020 dom tube that will take a much harder beating than 1018 erw tube . we build sliders for 40, 60, 70, 80, and 100 series cruisers. and in the next four weeks we will be devloping sliders and rear bumper for the hj78 series troop carrier . our 60 sliders are $400 for weld in and 450 for the bolt in .

Sloan 06-02-2002, 08:21 AM I'll have some pics of r77Toy's work this afternoon for your viewing pleasure.
calfj60 06-02-2002, 08:37 AM Jim, maybe we can meet some place like Gorman this summer. I maybe I will take the pig on the road and come see you. We sure do need to wheel together. later
Sloan 06-02-2002, 09:09 AM PismoJim if you're ever close to LA I would like to check out your SOA conversion.
X-Scott 06-02-2002, 09:32 AM FJ Junkie, can you post pictures of FJ60 sliders that 4x4 Labs make? I recently acquired a 1986 FJ60 and I would like to see pictures before I buy anything. Which method would you recommend - bolt in or weld on for the sliders? Thanks!
brainless 06-02-2002, 10:44 AM x-scott we will have some fj60 sliders posted this week on our website .
as far as welding or bolting . i like to weld them on , if you ever need to remove them it a simple case of the sawsall and a little time spent with the grinder . if you plan on taking them off every now and then i would get the bolt on set . but once they are on there is hardly a need to take them off . that is why i like to weld them on . we can do them in several different styles .
all round tube , half round tube half box tube or just box tube .
after rubithon we will be devloping a rear bumper and sliders for a 2001 hj78 troopie . we truly have landcruisers covered
X-Scott 06-02-2002, 01:18 PM FJ Junkie, thank you for your quick response! I can't wait to see the pictures. By the way, what's the typical cost for standard bolt in sliders?
brainless 06-02-2002, 08:13 PM x-scott 400 for weld in , 450 for bolt in ...

Sloan 06-02-2002, 08:44 PM So here are some pics of r77toy's Fj 60 sliders.
Sloan 06-02-2002, 08:45 PM another angle
calfj60 06-02-2002, 09:35 PM Ken, Was Dave there when you took the pics? or did you just take the photos ? I just saw the rear protection at night but it looks pretty beefy. later:beer:
Sloan 06-02-2002, 10:10 PM He was there and I told him that I was gonna take them. Was I not supposed to show pics of the rear protection? I'll delete them until I hear it was cool to post them or not. r77toy can I post pics of the bitchin rear protection setup?
r77toy 06-03-2002, 08:34 AM Sloan, thanx for posting the pics. I have no problem with the other pics, go ahead and post 'em. The rear protection is based on a Kaymar bumper, and has evolved into what you see. I told the owner to just drop a jungle gym on it. The shop's email is:
www.jdcustomtlcs@hotmail.com I'm just welding for 'em. 310 329-9007
Sloan 06-03-2002, 08:43 AM rear protection
Sloan 06-03-2002, 08:44 AM I wasn't sure if Dave had that no pics of the rig thing going on or not.;)
r77toy 06-04-2002, 09:04 AM Sloan, thanks for posting the other pics. See what I mean about the jungle gym?
Sloan 06-04-2002, 10:54 AM My only concern with that set up is that there isn't any top support. I guess if you lay it over that bad with or without you're going to get a lot of body damage.;)

Yeah, thanks from me too.
Last Sunday my lower rear quarter panels were suddenly trimmed off about five inches. I'm still not sure what the lower protection will look like but there will be some kind of corner protection before Rubithon. I figured it would be easier to trim them now before I bash them up again on the 'con. :D
I also have the Kaymar and also cutoff the end pieces. Saving the Kaymar and its tire carrier is a given. But I'm thinking about cutting off the receiver hitch and those stupid tabs that hang down and get bent over. I'm thinking a bolted on pintle would be better for me.
At this point, I'm expecting something a little less complicated than the jungle gym. :D However, I really appreciate seeing what it looks like. It helps to imagine how things look and how high to go. It's interesting to see how you addressed the gas filler. I was thinking about that and expect to stay below it (on both sides). Didn't want to cover the land cruiser emblem either. ;)
Thanks for sharing the pictures.
Cruiser Ken 06-04-2002, 01:43 PM Looks like he went that high to get some tail light protection.

We just looked at where the damage is, and covered it. He took out a tail lite lens at Rubithon last year. He's got new 1/4 panels waiting to be installed.
Sloan, it's hard to see in the pics, but there's bracing from the box tube up to the horizontal member.
pismojim, of course it's tied into the frame as well as the bumper.

Rubicon got my right side taillight when I brushed a tree. Being a vertical tree I think having a something lower will still protect whats above to some degree. Still looking for the dents is a good strategy, I use that technique too. Most of my hits seem to come up and in from below. Going off rocks and drops I was teased about swaying side to side by ever decreasing angles ies; 40-40,30-30,20-20,10-10, 5-5, and finally still. Some gears would help slow things down and minimize the bashing, meantime I just haul ass and let her bash.
It looks like you went inside the sawed off Kaymar end with a square tube then added some round tube outside. At first look, I'm thinkin we will go on the outside with some square tube then have a single round hoop coming up off of that. I guess we won't know until it's done. Hopefully, we'll get back to it later this week...
Like I said before seeing your pictures really helps to visualize the options. Thanks,
r77toy 06-04-2002, 10:00 PM Put a nerf on the box tube so your Hi Lift won't pivot into your window.
