: Swapping in AW4 to replace peugot

Call me a Homo or whatever, but I have two MJ 4.0, 1-4x4 factory D44 LWB & 1-4x2 SWB wanting to be 4x4 that need tranny swaps (both broken puke-o s) & I have a line on 2 4x4 type AW4, one with 242 tcase .

Has anyone here used a aftermarket tranny shifter on a AW4? or is the best bet to seek a factory shifter. The one with the 242 will be for DD and the one with 231 for further abuse out in the country.

Better in MJ ? Factory XJ shifter or B&M or Hurst... or get a column shifter from an earlier MJ?

Don't need a stinking console, the directions are on the visor LOL

The AW4 is a great choice......I would use the 231 more and cheaper parts available...I believe you can combine the two and use teh chani setup out of the 242 and put into the 231....makes it much stronger.
