I am finishing up the SAS on my 98 dakota. the driverside currently sits about .5in lower than the passenger side. I still need to add a .25in spacer to the passenger side spring perch to compensate for the drivers perch being mounted on raised section of the tube (waggy axle). This will put me at 3/4in difference side to side.
anyone who has run leafs on a dakota run in to this? I know that from the factory the torsin bars are different spring rates but is 3/4 of an inch really going to make a diff in how it handles or anything (DD)? I just want to some input before I burn everything in. I am running all-pro toyota rears with the top anit-wrap and the bottom leaf removed from the pack. sorry if this belongs in newb, but I thought I could get more feedback here.

i don't think this belongs in the newb section, most newbs don't do SAS. i don't really have an answer, but I'd ask in the general 4x4 section, seeing how this pertains to a Dodge, Jeep, and 'Yota.

I've heard of this happening before and as you mentioned, the stock torsion bars are different from side to side. The ram pickups also have different coil spring part numbers from side to side and I have heard of them leaning if you reverse the coils as well.
I used to work for a company that built fire trucks on medium duty truck chassis and it was not uncommon to see them lean to one side or the other. The fix was to add a shim to the side that was leaning to level it off. I wouldn't think that there would be any problems doing this on your truck considering that they do this from the factory on countless MDT chassis that are on the road for years. Hopefully someone else will chime in here and add additional input, but I think you would be fine.

I put Toyota axles under my 1980 CJ-7. The passenger side perch was about 1/2" lower than the drivers' side.
A 1/2" spacer, under the leafe pack, leveled the vehicle. I used a steel plate, the same width as the spring perch.
No problems whatsoever.
Good luck.

why put the spacer in? leave it closer to level.
a trick I just came across (might not be too permanant with flexing) is to loosen the spring bolt under compression or extension - and the spring will end up .5-1" taller or shorter.
Not something I've tried but it might level you out, at least until you really flex it out, when I think that difference may go away.
I have Skyjacker Early Bronco 4" lift coils in my Dakota, there was no indication of and difference between left and right. I don't remember if the twist may be left and right so that they only fit one way or the other. I just remember that the bottom coil ends on the front of the perch on one side and the rear on the other side. I have not measured my side to side height, I worry too much about my sagging ass. I've gotta fix that 3-4" fore-aft difference before I care about half an inch side to side =)
Sorry for the rambling..... Hope there was something useful in all that.
