working on getting my 4.3 vortec v6 (1999) installed in my first gen yota, my question is: there is a pipe with fittings that runs from my exhaust manifold to the top of the intake right behind the front of the engine. question is...1. what is this pipe called/what is its purpose. 2. when people put headers on these engines what do they do about that pipe 3.would you recommend me keeping the pipe on there. i dont have to worry about emmissions here in sc and if at all possible, i'd just like to eliminate that pipe (to save a lil room inside engine compartment.) Thanks from a yota guy!

The pipe you speak of is part of the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system on the engine. Basically it allows the engine to suck in exhaust gas to burn the unburned fuel in the exhaust. The EGR valve controls this so you either block off the port on the intake, or take all of it off. If you remove all the parts you need to get a dummy load to fool the computer, or have the computer programmed to eliminate the trouble code for the EGR. Getting rid of this won't hurt anything.
