I'm starting to gather parts to build an f-toy but i'm not going to compete. Is anyone running rear springs up front on these? if so what leaves out of what packs? i'm thinking of going this route and using 5 leaves instead of 6 since the f-toy is lighter than a full bodied rig

I use 6 leaf packs 48" rears in the front. and 51" 6 leaf packs ran in reverese in the back.

I wouldn't run any less leafs in the front.

How much lift did they give you in the front? was it about 4"?

I'm not really sure. The same setup in my old exo'd truck sat flast were in the ftoy they now sit with a curve to them but flex to the point that the ubolts were hitting the frame rails. My guess is 3-4" with the usual drop hanger.

I think they might be fronts reversed in the rear for three more inches of wheel base. Im sure either he or Brandon from Heavy Metal Fab can tell you what the setup is. Or just order new ones from MARLIN!

Heywood's truck has the same setup mine does. 48" rears in the front and 51"
rears in the back but installed backwards so the military wrap is at the back. At least thats what he was running, thought I read he had some new alcan mainleafs made up for it.

I'm still building mine right now so I can't say how well the springs will do. I have the rears in the front and they gave me about 4" of lift. I'm running 56" Chevy springs in the rear for about 4" of lift. Does anyone here have any recommendations for what size shackle I should use on the front springs?

Yeah those came with the rig but the center pin hole is forward and I like the dep. angle with the rear 3 back. Im debating swapping them out.

Yeah I like the departure angle too and the extra wheelbase makes the climbs easy. I'm at around 112" of wheelbase, and yours should be about the same.

i ran the rears up front. i had to add leafs because they were too flat. so dont take any leafs out. put a 6" shackle in..

then run it. then change it. then run it. then change it. you will not get it right the first time, or the second or third. you will just get close enough to say, "well it works good enough for now".

Thanks guys i think i'm going to do the rears up front, cut out the factory front crossmember and weld the drop hanger in place and move it about an inch forward. I'm going to 4 link the back and move the rear axle back a little. I'm thinking of a wheelbase of about 110-112 should be good

#20 had 3 main rears & 3 Allpro 4" front srings in front- 6 total leafs
I was allways impressed how well that combo works. It keeps its arch and uses the whole shock easily.

In the rear was 3 51" main rears, and 3 4" allpro rears - 6 total. Mains backwards, (APs foward I think).
That set up doesnt flex all that great, and is not very good in the whoops.
It does put the axle way back, and give good side hilling ability and stability.

Brett, those alcans Have the same spring rate as the stockers. I was in a hurry to order them, and the guy had a lot of questions I didnt know the answer to, so I just had tham made the same.

Nice job in #20, Its nice seeing it out there getting used:smokin:

Here's how my (rear) springs are mounted up front. They're just tacked in place until I get everything set up.

If this is where the front hanger is going to stay, I'm going to need to really reinforce it.

chvyhs did you add any leafs or is that just a stock rear pack? I was planning to mix leafs from a set from a 84 pu and a 85 runner.

You definetly want more leafs from and rear leaf pack.

Chvyhs your going to want to ditch those overloads...

I don't know if it's a stock pack. It's what was back there when I bought the donor truck. I think the previous owner put some add a leafs under the over load spring. (I've found a lot of half ass stuff on the donor truck.) I do plan on ditching the overloads.

Thanks
