Hey guys, i've been lookin for a skid plate to protect from the front bumper, under the front diff, and under the engine and trans, and then also in the rear, to protect the gas tank.

1) are they available commercially (not for lifted trucks)

2) can anyone help me with dimensions and bolt locations (so i can use existing hardware)

Basically, my neighbor is a machinist down at the Long Beach Port (California), and has offered to make them for me. i just want some pointers. the easy way would be for him to weld it on, but, thats obviously NOT possible, since i'll need access for oil changes, etc.

please help! thanx!

my '90 K1500 had a skid plate in the front. i didnt have the Z71 package but it still had some stuff to prtect the TC and all that im pretty sure. I would suggest that you crawl under your truck and take some measurements. then you get the exact fit that you want. and you can have it designed to meet your needs (oil changes and all that).

Can I ask what you'll need a skidplate for? With a stock IFS I don't think you'll get in enough trouble....

My 1994 K Blazer has a stock gas tank skid of what appears to be 1/8" - 3/16" steel then a plastic tank liner (bottom half) then the tank itself.

well, i 'd rather be safe than sorry, all it takes is 1 rock. w/ a steel plate, i'll know i hit it w/out damaging anything. but with plastic, the sound i hear could be something vital, make sense?

as for the gas tank skid, mine is all plastic, and with the Sub, i have more rear overhang than the Blazer, so more of a chance that i "could" get it hung on something and again, rather be safe than stuck.
