: difference between Hi-Pinion and low D30 carriers?

Is there?

Also is there an easy way to identify the high ratio from the low ration carriers? ie anyone know what the offset of the ring gear surface is when lying on it's side?

I run the 2.5L so don't gimme the D60 shit, I ain't got the clearance or the cash and I have yet to :nuke: my low pinion 30.

Also any issues with gusseting the vacuum disconnect 30? I want to run a posi-loc or air solenoid and welded diff but while I have it out a guesset would be nice too.

Thanks man.

Anyone got that measurment?

I get 1.93" from the outside edge of the ring gear side's carrier bearing surface to the surface the ring gear mounts.

Does that sound like 3.73-4.88 or 3.73 to whatever.

Come on somebody knows or has one lying around.

Your question is kinda screwy-
The subject says high / low pinion and the body of the message say high / low ratio.
Which is it?

you say that you have the vaccum disconnect which would mean a YJ D30, my D30 is high pinion so what are u talking about, and do a search on the vac. disco. there are numerous possibilities, TJ shaft, etc....:flipoff2:

Sorry guys it was a two question post.

ImKuNfusED answered question #1 for me, I was already pretty confident the carriers were the same just in there backwards.

Question #2, is there an easy way to identify a low range carrier? I provided my measurement from the carrier bearing surface outside to the ring gear surface. This should be what changes between hi and low ratio, I just don't know what anything but the carrier I have measures and I would like to know I have the correct acrrier before the installation begins.

I have a TJ but I am swapping in an XJ hi pinion D30 with the disco. I will be swapping shafts to 297x joints but not loosing the disco. I will weld up the front and posi loc the disco in essence giving me a free OX and about 15% strength improvement.

And the big bonus for me is it is a negative money mod, as my Tj D30 with 50K miles and 4.10 gears is more valuable, I can sell the shafts out of it for more then I paid for the complete XJ D30. All I have to do is swap the gears, weld it up, and bolt it in. Then figure out how I want to deal with the disco.

I hope that helps clear it up some.

where do you get the 15% strength improvment, are u figuring that from the 297x's

He already has 297X's... but now he will be High Pinion as well...

Yup that is what I was getting at.
