1) grinder
2) new perch
3) brain

You are missing at least one.

well i could use a grinder and a perch but considering that its offset and it has galleys for the U-bolts to fit i dont think a conventional perch will work any suggestions besides get a brain lol

Don't do an SOA on a D27. The extra stress will cause the shafts, housing, tubes, knuckles, c's, joints and probably the brakes to explode as soon as you put the weight of the vehicle on it.

That's the only advice I have.

I ran a dana 27 sprung over for years with 33" tires. It even had a power lock in the front too....:flipoff2: Beginner steps... 27 to 44 to 60:grinpimp:
Grinder is a must, and different U bolts that will fit.

X2

I wheeled the bejeezus out of my scout with SOA and 31's. Power lock, disc brakes, new U-joints. Held up good. The stub shafts are the same size as stock scout II shafts stubs, just coarse spline. Except mine had no casting on the left side. I just welded the perch on. Yeah, grind a flat spot, drill a hole for the spring center pin, grind the bottom of the tube smooth so the u-bolts fit. Done.

Good luck newb!

I'm calling shenanigans on this guy. The D27 front DOES NOT have the perch cast into the diff.

X2 The stock D27 spring perch is next to the cast center section on the axle tube and uses 2 different size U bolts.

Braaaapp is the noise I make when I fart:laughing:

Now, run along and play in traffic with the other Dumbass Newbies.

How did you ID this front end?

I bet it has a nice little cast in 30 on it instead of a 27. If it does go up and see post #2

Why? I'd find a Scout 44 & do that...

If not, here is a pic of mine when I got it.
(I never ran these and they are long gone!)

I though the same thing, but then I realized...I don't think he has D44, he's just a dumbass and forgot some needed punctuation.

I think he meant: What do y'all think I should do? Go with a D44? [Be]cause [a D27] is all I have laying around.

Hi-9, or Mog's.

Their portal design will allow you to stay SUA and save many of the hassles that come with doing a good SOA, plus they are a little stronger than your D27's and should allow you to run 33's or even 35's with out any real issue or concern.

Then you can use the rig as a tax write-off for plowing your fields :bounce2: :bounce: :bounce2:

If your springs are shot, why throw good money over bad axles....
http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=519858

Find a set of Scout 2 axles or at least some jeep axles.
Hell, people give away AMC20/D30 combos.
Waggy D44s would be even better.

What happened to these?

He could do Mogs, but the pinion is super long, like a foot and a half.

Not so much with a pinion conversion.

And since he would be staying SUA, the driveshaft angles wouldn't be too severe, so he should be fine with short driveshafts.

The hi-9's would be even better.

No problem! Just hook them straight to the transfercase, no need for those pesky driveshafts:laughing:
