looking at V8 swaps for my toy. i want to run a sm420/465 for strength/price/availability, and am looking at getting a TPI 305 from a late 80's or early 90's camaro, as there are lots of these motors around and available cheap. anyways, my question is: i know in '87 chevy went to a 2 piece rear main seal, and i heard that you have to adapt the tranny input shaft if you use a pre-'87 tranny with a newer motor. is this true/ what would be needed to be done to get a 420 or 465 onto a late model TPI 305? thanks.:usa:

No, you don't need to change the input shaft on either the SM420 or 465. You do need to make sure that you have the correct flywheel (i.e., post 1987)
