Above about 3000 rpms under heavy acceleration, it'll start spitting black smoke. Any cluse as to what would cause this? I cleaned the MAF sensor, clean air filter. Any clues?

yes sir i do have a clue

it is one of three things

one) your fuel pressure regulator, see it regulates how much fuel returns to the tank not how much is sent. so if it has been tampered witht then it can get all screwed up. it is a diaphram controlled by vacume so if there is a hole in it then it no longer works.

two) O2 sensor. they need to be replaced every 60k so pull yours and check it for cleanlyness, if it has a bunch of black crap on it then it needs to be replaced- no cleaning it does not work!

three) your computer, you said that you cleaned the maf sensor so i think that your in the clear there, they aren't really know for going out on those vehicles. and the comp usually takes out more so check those two first ones-especailly the FPR

Add my vote to those for the fuel pressure regulator. I've seen a 2.9 display exactly the symtoms you discribe. (Yeah, different, but still a Koeln motor)
