Guys.. i want to convert my 1989 chevy Camaro TPI system equipped wit a MAF sensor to a MAP system. I have searched but i can't find information on what do i need to change? All i can get is web pages that will modify my actual harness for $290+.
So i wonder if someone who has done this before can point me in the right direction?
I assume it is very easy to do.
Thanks.

Hi Dan.
I already found that web page. But reading that article.. i get confused. That guy states in the "Parts needed":
Parts needed:
1 MAP Sensor
2 new Knock Sensor (If you want to reuse your '165 KS, check HERE )
3 '730 ECM
4 V8 MEMCAL for '730 ( I used the AUJP base, GM part# 16151348 for $39 online at http://www.gmpartsdirect.com .
5 (EPROM programmer w/WINBin and 730 ECU file (or equivilent) for {min} Mag. VSS change and VATS disable. See Programming101 doc for PROM tuning guide)
6 This is a current copy of my 730 ECU !
A handy tool for repining GM harness connectors is the Lisle Terminal Tool, P/N 14900 and can be found here
Adaptor parts needed:
7 old ECM or new ECM pin header
8 old harness or two for (1)24 pin and (2)32 pin harness connectors
9 Cinch Crimp on pins from D-shell connectors (Cinch P/N 030-1953-000) available from http://www.newark.com .
I am not sure if I will need to follow the 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 bullets above??
I definetly won’t get back to MASS so I am not interested in building a harness to be capable of swapping to Mass.
If you can help me i really appreciate it.

What '89 Chevy came with a TPI system?
camaro, firebird, or corvette.
the main difference is in the computer which you WILL need the map computer, but the harness and sensors are going to need to be moded and new wires run, i think but not 100% that the plugins are not interchangable with the older mas system.
the upper plenum is realy no different, you will need to tap 2 small machine screw holes for the map sensor but very easy to do. they will look a little different but they will work.
if i remember right your 89 system only has 8 injectors not the 9 cold start system so you wont need to eliminate that or mod the fuel rail.

Ok so i need the ECM from a MAP system. This is a step forward since i was told both directions: "You will use your actual ECM" and "You need to swap to a MAP ECM".
So i will need to swap the ECM and modify my actual harness to diferent ECM connectors and add some wires for the MAP sensor.
I have seen some ECM's at ebay but all of them states "No prom included". Can i use my actual Prom and just bolt-it-in the MAP ecm? Just like that? Or do i need to buy a new prom / Modify my actual prom?
And yes.. my system has no 9th injector.

First off, its MAF, not MASS
Thirdgen is the place that has answerd all your questions. Search around there.
No you cant use your prom chip, you need the 730 prom as well, or a custom tuned chip if your engine is modifed. If you are running a modifed engine, plan on doing a custom chip anyway.

it's better if you are doing mods to your engine. However.. in my case.. i don't have room in the bay from the engine to the radiator for the MAF sensor.. so i need it gone.
