Had an eye opener today driving my daily driver FJ55 home from work today... fortunately I was heading up a hill when it happened, approaching a turn, and only 1/2 a mile from my house. Limped home and changed it. the rubber had softened from a lot of gear oil(steering box) so the thing just came apart when I stepped on the brakes. Luckily the back brakes worked somewhat. So, if your axle or steering box or whatever leaks oil near the hose, check them!!!
