When in 4wd the left front slings grease from the seals where the "ball" of the axle goes in. everything feels tight as i started taking it apart, could just the seals there be bad, I took the seal off where theres a 2 piece metal ring, a cork type seal, a round metal ring and a rubber seal. I also see theres a filler plug for grease. If its throwing grease does that mean a bearing or seal is out inside or could i replace or clean and silicone inner seals around the ball (without taking hub/rotor and everything off? Yhen add grease through the filler hole.
Ive never worked on a ball type axle like toy or suzuki so I dont know anything about them. Out of shop time for today and ill get the toyota haynes manual today and continue tommorow.
I took off the lockout selector then a retaining ring around the axle but the next piece of the hub won't come off, should it come right off? (the aluminum housing). how does the rotor and debris shield come off?
I have brake caliper off, tie rod disconnected, dosnt seem to be anyway to take debris shield off then the rotor unless i have to take more out of the hub/axle end. the axle is an early 80s one the book i get today will help but any tips would be apriciated for tomorrow thanks.

go to the toy forum and look in the faqs. everything you are going through is normal.
the grease from the knuckle ball is only dripping onto the tire, then slinging off it. you need inner seals and maybe trunion bearings.
the hub comes off after you hit the wheel hub with a hammer to pop out the cone washers hoding it in place.
marlin and trail gear have knuckle rebuild kits resonably priced. trailgears usually has all the gaskets and felts as well as new metal rings. look into replacing the wheel bearings if you are going through the trouble.
the hub socket can be had for about 24 bucks as well so you don't have to bust out a chisel on the hub nuts.

if you are only wanting to do the knukle ball seals and axle seal, search the "camo method" for pulling apart just what you need.

Sounds like it could be a bad inner axle seal. To replace that you have to take the whole hub, rotor and spindle off. The felts on the ball, always have a little grease around them. The hub body has cone washers on the studs and those are mostly likely what is holding that from coming off. Tap on the body with a hammer to loosen that cone washers, but there is a snap ring on the end of the birf that has to come off too. I won't walk you through rebuilding the axle, if you get the manual it will be easy.

Thats not a problem! Its called "Lube Job"

It lubricates everything around the tire so nothing seizes up, well thats what I keep telling myself. :flipoff2:

Wow thanks I got the answers I needed and didn't get flamed!
The Camo method looks like the way to go so I'll try that and just replace the seal and felt for now. And I see about the cone washers in the book now, I tought they looked funny- like lock washers that would'nt move. Thanks

Nothing came up for that, it says those words are too short...

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : 85, SFA, FSM

you have to add * after three letter words. Example FSM*

Thats what I ended up doing needed to get it back together fast so i cleaned the felt and siliconed both sides. Then added more grease.
How much grease fits in there? I put 5 mini tubes worth in and it wasnt bursting from the seams or filler hole. And It wasnt completly empty just whatever slung out and leaked when i took the plates and felt off. Should I add more till it comes out the filler hole?
