Hey OOPS.....I am fixing to get a set of spare doors and cut them into half doors, and I like the way yours look. Question: what are you running for a latch, I see no handles ?????

Damn OOP's those are sweet!!! EDIT: Where's the latch to open them up? NEVERMIND :D
I'm am getting ready to start mine on a donor set, and I might just keep the frame intact like that...Last night while looking at it all, I decided just to remove my originals and run "open" for a few days to see if I enve want to mess with it. Only problem I see, besides the law not liking me not having mirrors, is that anything that falls on the floor is probably going to end up falling out the door now.

I'll be sure and keep an eye out for your pictures. I was just searching half doors, and I saw where someone put what looked like a coat hanger with a loop on one end for a handle. The loop was sticking out int the " arm rest" cut out of the door, looks like it would work pretty good.

The loop was closest the the back of the door. I have yet to get into the door to see how the latch is set up, but it seems like it will be pretty easy to make work?????

Do you guys recommend leaving the window frame?

I am planning on using the lock button right on top of the back edge of the door. By the looks of everything, all that is needed is to push down a rod about 1/2" to open the door. Hopefully it will work for me!

My first set of half doors had no frame. My second set has the frame and a window that bolts into place for those windy/raining times. Works great for me! Out here we wheel from the desert to the snow capped mountains.

Here is how I mounted the latch assembly. It is out of a Ford Escort. One dollar apiece at the pseudo P-N-P in Roseville.

I wish there were such a thing a PNP here in al - none of the junkyards will even let you onto the yard anymore.....

You can use the stock latch. The rods are easy to cut and bend. I cut mine to length and bent the 90 for the holder. You can see the latch handle.

I like all the ideas you guys have come up with. I assume that when I cut my doors, I have to watch out how far down to make the cut or the rod will not be able to work properly?

I can crank out a set of doors start to finish in about ten hours now. Those are my first set of white ones on the link above. Here's a couple tips for doing them.

I cut my main cut line 5.5" up from the factory seam, the one that you would attach moulding to keep people from hitting the doors. I find it's perfect for resting your arm on at that heighth.

When you draw your line on the outer skin for the cut, leave an extra inch of sheetmetal. Cut tabs in that material and bend it over towards the inside of the door. This gives you a good 90 degree surface to mount the piece of sheetmetal that will now be where your arm rests. I use rivets to hold it in place.

One the inside of the door, you will cut out all of it's strength. Use a piece of 1" angle iron 1/8" thick to stiffen up the inner door. I weld it in place wherever I can ( the metal has all kinds of raises and dips in it). I also use it for the other edge to attach my new sheetmetal armrest to.

The interior I just use a piece of sheetmetal to make it all flat and easy to carpet. I use some $3 a foot outdoor carpet and liquid nails to stick it down. That and some zip screws and finishing washers. The latch is just a simple shackle that is attached to a loop that is made out of the original rod that went to the inside handle. You can leave it still attached and just cut it off and bend a loop in it for the shackle. Simple and easy.

Pat, I did the same thing with the 1" tabs. Then I filled the door with spray foam. It makes the doors very solid. I know it will be just about impossible to get any dents out, but fawk-it. I'l just make new ones if they get to dented. They are about half done now. Just need to finish painting them and I'm going to putty the top and carpet the inside. Too much mud here to carpet the tops, I need something I can just wipe off. btw did you break that short shaft yet ? :D
