Sorry guys, I am not a Toy guy, so I have no idea how to answer some questions a friend of mine has.
He is buying an '07 Tacoma Double cab and want to put in a toytec 3" lift. (It has OME 2" spings with 1" spacer upp front and an AAL in the back, or so I am told).
He is staying IFS, so no SAS for him. He has questions on CV boot life, driveshaft vibe, U-joint life and so on.
So, you newer taco guys, what should he look for and look out for after this lift is installed. He is having a local shop do the work as he is less mechanically inclined.
TIA for anyhelp you can offer me. He is not a "hardcore wheeler", just some basic offroad experience and does not want to hurt the truck. basically, he wants to run 33-12.50 equivalent.

Any increase in angle is going to shorten the life of the CV's and boots. How much varies.

There should be no reason for driveshaft vibe, it never moves from the stock locations with the lift your talking about.

true, an increase in angle is going to shorten life. Granted mine isn't an 07 but honestly i beat the piss out of mine and put a lot of miles on it and I have never an issue. I wouldn't worry about it. If he's going for 33's then he will probably sell the truck before there is a problem.

Go to TTORA.
You will have rear drive shaft vibes, it is the nature of the beast with these trucks, they have it stock and lifting it greatly magnifies it. 33x12.50 is too wide for these trucks unless he wants to run like 3.75 inches of backspacing.
I run 885's up front with no top out spacer and add-a-leafs in the back with 295/70/17's on Factory Tundra wheels (less back spacing than stock) I also run Total Chaos Upper Control Arms to keep my tires from rubbing there and even after trimming still rub slightly on my inner fender wheels on compression and on the body mount. You really gain little other than looks with lifts on these trucks as rubbing on the body mount is the biggest issue and a lift doesn't fix that.

If you worried about rear drive shaft vibe just put some washers between the crossmember and the rear carrier bearing to help with the angle.

If he runs the 305/75/R16's he'll rub on the upper control arms. He needs to be running a 285/75 or a 255/85 instead. Couple that with a set of rims with 4" back spacing and he should be set. Minor fender trimming should take care of most everything. If he gets vibrations, some people have been shimming the rear a little.
