I found out today that I might beable to get a free (or really cheep) FJ-40. It has not run in 5 years, since the owner parked it. The stock I-6 is still in it and was "running fine" when it was parked. The problem is that I am planning on driving home in a month to get my XJ inspected (Stupid PA), see Jimmy Buffet, and pick up some free stuff for the XJ. If I get the FJ and sell the XJ I will have to drive it home (what type of milage for the I-6 40?) or title the FJ40 here in CO (Higher insurance). I will find out the condition of the body next week when my friend picks it up. I guess the best case would be to get the FJ40 and keep the XJ till the 40 is trail/road ready, I'm going to try that. Any other ideas?

if it's free.. get it... park it. Start wrenching on it... drive the XJ as a DD.

if it's free, take it! if you decide not to keep it, i KNOW you could unload it for at least $500.... and you make money. as for driving the -40 back to PA..........that would be a long and helacious trip. mileage isn't to bad but the top speed is about 60 in stock trim.
on thing you may find out though, you might start looking down on jeeps and start taking the bus just to avoid being seen in yours!!:D :flipoff2:

I'm going to check it out next week if it looks good and runs it's mine. The XJ will become DD untill I get the 40 titled and legal then, maybe, I'll sell the XJ and pick up a car to play with :D
So If I SOA the 40 will my 35" Baja Claws (truely 33, I know) fit well?

Yeah well the advantage of the 35/33 baja claws is that I don't have to buy them since the SOA costs next to nothing I'll have a pritty good rig for very little money ;) Eventualy, I'll be wanting bigger axles for 38's a nice 350/th700/atlas2 and some tube for good measure

You can run the 35s (that are 33s). If you start with stock springs it won't look too bad they'll just be a bit on the small side.

Cool, I think it has stock springs so thats what I'll use. I suppose I could get after market ones or use some junkyard salvage ones (Good donors?). I would like to keep the suspension as inexpensive as possible so that if/when I go to coil overs I don't loose much money

I say get it anyways. You can get the "Tow by the front wheels" career from U-Haul for next to nothing. They may not let you tow with the jeep so take someone elses truck down there and pick one up, something about it being an open vehicle or something.

You might want to spend a day running the search on the PBB, hitting the board on my site, and running thru the tech links on my site. SOA's on Cruiser cannot be done for "next to nothing" and be done safely or with any performance in mind.
Either that, or your definition of "next to nothing" is different than mine. heh heh
Oh, and welcome to the cruiser addiction!
