: Naches 2007!!
RustoleumWhite 05-10-2007, 04:18 PM New Thread. Let pick a time/date for Naches '07 so we can all set our schedules (and our rebuilds :flipoff2: )
I liked the the mid/early September of last year. I think it worked out perfect weather, crowd and timing wise. I'd be down for it this year.
Lets just not make it cross with anyone elses Con trip :D
 :spam: :blender:
RustoleumWhite 05-10-2007, 04:20 PM Edit bump :flipoff2:
uglyscout 05-10-2007, 04:55 PM I'm down for anything after Labor Day...
Mechanos 05-10-2007, 05:02 PM I like the idea of not having it the same time as the 'con trip. Kind of iffy on me being done by that tme this year anyway, but if it was timed right, I'd consider taking a long vacation again and possibly hitting both the 'con and Naches since I have to drive half way across the country to get to either one. Would make the trip more worth while for me to make it a combo.
Binder 05-10-2007, 05:55 PM Game.:smokin:
RustoleumWhite 05-10-2007, 06:11 PM Sept 15-16 would be consistent with last year, gives a weekend after labor day to recoup and keeps it in the cool but not quite rain.
What's con trip scheduled for this year?
binderbasher 05-10-2007, 06:16 PM sep 7,8,9
RustoleumWhite 05-10-2007, 10:03 PM sep 7,8,9
Is that the Con, or your suggestion for Naches?
binderbasher 05-10-2007, 10:58 PM Last I heard the guys are planning on sep 7, 8, 9 for the rubicon trip.
binderbound 05-11-2007, 05:47 AM If those are the dates then.......I'm in!
Its gonna be tough getting all that vacation time off work. The boss is gonna be pissed:flipoff2:
Harvester of Sorrow 05-11-2007, 08:46 AM Like I mentioned on the phone Last night that weekend seems logical to me Rusty...
It gives everyone a weekend to recover from any Labor day activities...
I am in:smokin:
RustoleumWhite 05-11-2007, 10:01 AM well Cool. Unless anyone comes up with a GOOD reason to change them. As of now, Pirate 4x4 IH Naches 2007 is the weekend of September 15 & 16th.
I'd like, and if Ben is willing to lead (since he knows the are best), to do the 'big' Kaner or whatever it is loop on Saturday. IIRC its a long trip and will take most of the day so we'll need to get our asses out of bed and on the trail early(er than normal). Then probably hit the rocks Sunday morning. If we really want to be proactive (and take off some work) we could even try to get there Friday and so some evening wheeling.
Ben W 05-11-2007, 11:31 AM Harvester of Sorrow is planning on leading this year. If I go, I will probably be late, so I'll just catch up.

Ben W 05-11-2007, 11:46 AM Its tradition.

IH Naches 2007 is the weekend of September 15 & 16th.
I'm officially in --- I plan to bring everything minus the kitchen sink this year. Wheel my junk 'til it blows and put it on the trailer and go home happy... Unlike last year were I wheeled 'til it blew and then had to drive it 200 miles home angry.

Harvester of Sorrow 07-10-2007, 12:08 PM Does that mean I need to get my shit together?

4. Figure out tow rig situation...:shaking:
5. Modify Scout to fit eventual tow rig situation...:shaking:
6. During previous modifications build traction bar.
7. Install new (used but new to me) rear leaf packs
8. Put new stickers on rig from IHSTO and TRACTRACTOR when they get here...:shaking:
The above list is not in order...nor will it aaaaallllll get completed...

6. If 5, get [some] spare front shafts
7. If 4, get front cage kit and instaul
8. If non of the above, take race rig and beat the tar out of it in prep to rebuild it :grinpimp:

Ben W 07-10-2007, 08:08 PM Anybody want to wheel on Friday the 14th? I'm thinking I might go up early and hammer down on a few trails Fri. afternoon. If you're interested you'll need to be fast to keep up (sorry HoS) :flipoff2:

OW! that hurts! If we go at all we'll be up there early to mid day Friday as well. Too far away for me to promise anything.
My list;
1. waiting eagerly for my STAK case
2. rebuld 727
3. install tranny & t-case
4. beadlocks for new Iroks
5. install 2nd tranny cooler
Pretty much in that order:(

Well, no STAK guy was going to take WAY to long. It's a good story ask me by the campfire. So now I'm hunting for my dual cases parts, any dodge 203s or 205s laying around?

Scout our PU??
If its a Scout, open and 31's is doable, but you will struggle. With 33's or 35's you can make up a little for the openness.
Weld the rear and run with it.
If this is a PU.... 31's would be a detrimate, 33's or 35's better but still on the big side for the trails. Probably doable, but I do remember one spot last year that was 75" wide.... and that was it. The wider axle rigs were able to walk up one tree or squeeze the rubber through, but if the body was too wide you were stuck.
And we don't cut trees. Drive up them, rub them yes. Cut: No.
Come anyway and ride shotgun!

Hmmm.... this place doesn't sound too friendly to my full-width swap with a projected width of around 86" to the outside of the rubber.
Ben W 08-13-2007, 07:59 PM Being wide at the tires is OK, being wide or long in the body is bad. Binder's Aristocrat used to be like 125" wide at the tires and he got through ok.

Sure, heck you can bring your Yugo if you want. Every kind of rig is welcome.

My Scout is a solid 83.5" wide at the tires and I made it no problem... (Other than almost tipping over in the flats and rolling away on the super steep stuff and not running and breaking an axle... and... and....)
NVScouter 08-14-2007, 07:38 AM Winter prep at the house and two job changes in the last 6 months have really taken my work time, I'm predicting I'm out. Well I'm out for sure. Just found out last week that the wife and I are relocating to Salt Lake City for work and need to be there and working Sept. 4th. So, we're selling everything, tow rig, spare truck and house in a hurry! Keeping just her Tahoe, Scout and trailer and I'll buy a better tow rig down there once we sell the house. of course I'll be watching for some vids. of the trip.

Ok, so if you don't know what trails you're running do you at least know where your camp is going to be? I may be in the area and would at least like to have an idea where you guy's might be found.
Fordsux74 09-02-2007, 04:49 AM Well I just purchased my second Scout. This one has had some work already done to it. Dont really know the quality of the work or if it will hold up on the trails. I would love to go but would really need a way to get the damn thing back if I broke out there. If someone has a spot on their trailer they would like to rent out for.... idk, maybe lots of beer and steak, since that seems to be a crowd favorite. Ill even bring some boobies along with me. Not sure if they will make a public appearance or not, but the beer should help with that some. Im in Puyallup. Let me know. Thanks guys.

If you feel its trail worthy, then by all rights come a long!! The more the merrier.
Give it a once over, go wheeling next weekend local(er) to ya to give it a test then grab your camping gear and come along. Can't be any worse than the hack-job I'm bringing :D

Milk Pond Road?? There are maps and such from last years trip. Its not too hard to find but I always seem to turn up the wrong one first anyway (for some reason I always turn earlier than I should... :shaking: ). First one up (usually HOS or BenW) usually leaves some sort of "IH" on the sign posts... paper plates are the norm.
Go up Milk Pond Road for about 1-2 miles and it will fork at the the 'pond'. Go right and the camp sight we typically use will be a couple hundred yards on your right (if you miss the first entrance, just keep going, the 'road' through the camp site y's back in just a little farther).
Looks like some rain would be good for the dust.

Great to hear Helmer! I don't know the hotels by the airport but there are a bunch of them. Just try to get one on the main road or close to it so I can get there with the trailer. One way or the other we'll make it work.:smokin:

Well that sucks!
I'll still be there, but it's up in the air as to what I'll be driving. We pulled the camper off Dad's truck right before he left for his Cruise. Found it had a leaking rear wheel cyinder, so that has to be fixed before I tow up to Naches. If for some reason it dosen't, the diesel is coming!

Ben W 09-10-2007, 09:59 AM Directions to camp
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=140183&stc=1
Basically come through the town of Naches...Stay straight when you get to the Highway 12/410 *Y*. That will put you on 410...
Drive on 410 till you get to WHISTLING JACKS (a resort and Shell gas station). About 2-3'ish miles past Whistling Jacks you take a right on to MILK CREEK RD or FS1708. From there you just follow the map.
When you get to the "pond" you take the right fork in the road. The camp site is NOT the one on the corner but a little down and on the right.
If you come over 410 from the WEST, FS1708 is before Whistlin Jacks.

Since I posted the list, my attendance is implied. :flipoff2:
beast1210 09-10-2007, 09:55 PM I am in, just worked the details out with my boss today. Gonna cut it close with the details of my scout, still trying to throw some 33's on. You all prefer a certain CB channel?
Harvester of Sorrow 09-11-2007, 03:35 PM I have some bad news….
I am out...:(
I am not happy about having to make a responsible decision…I usually say FUCK IT and throw caution to the proverbial wind…but I just can’t this time.
My finances, or commissions, that I was “hoping” would come through by the end of August never came…as they haven’t all summer. Such is the life of having a pretty fixed income ($$$ child support) supplemented with commissions. Commissions are what I play with…
The girlfriend is upset about not going…so much so that she offered to lend me money to get a tow rig this month…But I just can’t do that. It seems that every time I make a rushed decision, it ends up costing me more on the backside. I have been rushing to try and make it, put the rig together, etc...and it is just not coming together.
I hope you fuckers have a good time…Please believe me when I say that I am pretty bummed about not going. Those of you that know me know this...
:(
Chiscouter…I am a puss.

I have been regretting this as well, but going on 4 months with no work, and nothing even close to being considered an interview, financially I just can't do it. I am pissed I had to make this choice, honestly Naches is something I look forward to all year. I tried everyway I could to make it work, but things like rent and food keep getting in the way. Anyway I'll see ya all next year, have a safe and fun weekend.
Binder 09-11-2007, 07:25 PM You guys are going to miss out!.....
Talked to Helmer this afternoon. We will be there probably around 1PM or 2PM fri.:smokin:
When are the rest of you going to get there?
Ben W 09-11-2007, 09:21 PM Damn, I'm disappointed you guys can't make it, you'll be missed.
Binder - I'm planning to be there around that time on Friday too, but you know me, its more likely I"ll be late.
beast1210 09-12-2007, 01:56 AM say i just realized my nw trail pass was up in aug. Do I need to get a new one?
Jeepdude_Jay 09-12-2007, 06:31 AM Not needed up there as far as I know.

Do you have liscence tabs?
RustoleumWhite 09-12-2007, 11:28 AM ...Out...
...Out...
Hmm, sounds like it going to be Rick, Me, Ben and Jay. With Helmer coming in to ride passenger.
Sounds like Beast is trying to be there (what is your real name, we can't just all you Beast all weekend :D), IHC-6/John, you and the Ms. still coming?
Kind of a bummer to see it trim down so quickly, but I understand. Time/Projects and a hash to get the truck together (happens every year, always do a major change right before  ) makes me reconsider.... but this may be my only wheeling this year, so.....
Hmm, Ben/Jay, want to just got to Reider for the day instead :D
Jeepdude_Jay 09-12-2007, 10:21 PM Hmm, Ben/Jay, want to just got to Reider for the day instead :D
Is there wheelin' there?:D:p:D
Jeepdude_Jay 09-12-2007, 10:22 PM I have so many irons in the fire right now it's not even funny, but like Mark, it may be my only wheelin' this year.
Harvester of Sorrow 09-13-2007, 09:54 AM Guys...
I appreciate the offers for the open seats...It means a lot to me that you would offer them.
Helmer is mine Sunday evening for dinner and or drinks when he gets back. He and I spoke yesterday and I gave him a nice list of places to stay within his budget that are along International BLVD.
He is super pumped to be just able to just sit in a 4x4 right now and go along for the ride...
I know you guys will show him a good time...
Mark

I know the feeling.
Is there wheelin' there?:D:p:D
I think :rasta:
Longer drive for you guys, shorter drive for me and Rick and just make it a day run, no camping....
Just a thought. I love Naches, but with just the 4 of us (maybe 5) now, maybe try a Naches run again a little later.
But I'm up for whatever, just means a mad pack and load tonight and tomorrow morning (I did however pull the truck out of the garage last night now with its new gears, fuel system and detroit in the front!!
BTW, fully locked, SUA, loose rocks/boulders, no ambient light (i.e. night wheeling) and dry soil = highlift.... a couple of times :D.
atleast the truck ran great :D
Ben W 09-13-2007, 02:12 PM I'm still going to Naches.
Binder 09-13-2007, 06:15 PM But I'm up for whatever, just means a mad pack and load tonight and tomorrow morning
Get packin!:flipoff2:
I'm still going to Naches.

Any news of fire danger/ camp fires allowed?
Ben W 09-13-2007, 07:10 PM Fire danger is high. Campfires are banned. I have one of these propane convection heaters I'm thinking about bringing to use as the "campfire", should be legal since it is contained and can be turned off with a knob.

:laughing::laughing:
ChiScouter 09-17-2007, 03:13 PM Im sitting in the airport recovering from sensory overload. I had an absolute blast. A big thanks to Binder for hauling my ass around and babysitting me all weekend. Riding with him on trails and rocks (except for a few brief moments:D ) was like being chauffered in a limo down the highway. The combo of him shifting all those levers, threading needles that a jeep couldn't get through in one pass , and the competency of his rig made everything seem easy. Ben was a great trail leader, provided great trails, breathtaking views, and allowed me to watch a jeep do three point turns where a scout slipped right through:D. It was great meeting everyone and I really appreciate the hospitality as I felt right at home. Hopefully I can get out there with my rig sometime and show you guys how its really done:laughing:
Thanks to all for an awesome weekend:beer::beer::beer:
And HOS, ............:shaking:
Binder 09-17-2007, 08:23 PM Helmer, you're welcome any time. It was a plesure to have you along with us this past weekend. I hope you enjoyed your stay.:smokin:
