It works awesome, it's just expensive. I use it when I go on LONG weekends like Jeeper's Jamboree (which I will be attending this year :cool2: )

I line the bottom of my 100 quart ice chest with it (wrapped in newspaper) and then place a towel on top of it. Then I toss in a layer of ice, and load in the

I use it occasionally. My friend used to get it for free. Listen to Lance and use a towel or some paper wraps, it is MUCH colder than conventional ice. One time our cooler contents shifted and our eggs ended up getting frozen solid. If you use all dry ice, there's no water to soak everything and spill out everywhere.

I have used two coolers one with reg ice at 32 deg and one with dry ice to keep the reg ice frozen. Add a few popcicles and leave it sit untill the other cooler needs ice.
Lance I am supprised the beer did not freeze, dry ice is something lice -270 deg.

Dry ice is da shiznit!! I use it at one end of my cooler and pack everything according to what temp I want to keep it. Ice cream on the left and butter on the right. No mess either and I use about 10 pounds for a 3 day weekend. And for the beer/Margarita cooler Ice cubes on top of dry ice.

dry ice is cool.. (no pun intended)

but use it sparingly. I used 10 pounds wrapped in newspaper,
with cube ice ontop, in a 60 quart cooler. there was 15 lbs of
steaks on the bottom, and 3 cases of beer ontop of that. it
froze EVERYTHING in the cooler. all the beer.

So, I took some of the frozen beers out, about 2 cases worth,
and put in room-temp 2-more cases of beer. the dry ice was
almost gone at that point, but the 2 new cases of beer also
got completely frozen...... sucked......

this was on a memorial-day weekend trip on Shasta lake on
a houseboat trip. live and learn.

You ought to go to wal-mart(they have them other places but are $10 more) and get for $30 a coleman icechest. It's a silver plastic and the insulation is 2 times as thick. it is suposed to keep the ice frozen for 5 days unlike their 3-day stainless $90 ones. I used it from 6:30 in the morning on friday and stayed up at the Rubicon till monday afternoon. got home that evening and still had at least 23# of a 25# bag of ice, regular cube ice not dry ice. My other ice chest was the normal IGLOO wheelie icechest and had about no ice by saturday evening and I ended up throwing my sodas in with my food in the coleman. Keep in mind that all my soda was pre-chilled and my water bottles were frozen. So I plan on going to wal-mart and buying a second coleman 5-day icechest for my sodas.

don't forget to make dry ice bombs too! Just a little dry ice and a little water in a plastic bottle, seal, throw, BOOM!

Just be safe about it.

Dean,

Raley's along I-80 in Auburn (Foresthill exit) had dry ice a few years ago. Safeway in Truckee(north of Fwy) had it 2 years ago.

I'd put dry ice in my large cooler and it would freeze everything solid. it will freeze canned beer, especially that Butt Light :barf: you drink :flipoff2:

When I use dry Ice, I use two coolers and don't put anything in the cooler with the dry ice I wouldn't put in the freezer at home.

It keeps the cooler frozen solid for a couple of days, especially if wrapped with an old comforter or blanket for extra insulation.

This is what I am looking for. @-120 I know it will freeze my swag beer real quick but hey Dan it will freeze your yuppie beer just the same:flipoff2:
What shape is this stuff when you get it? And do you cut it up, break it or do you just leave it whole.? Also what does it cost?

I know all about the bombs you can make with it...... I mean I read about them on the internet...ya ya that's it.

Don't most supermarkets carry it? I know Harris Welding has dry ice but that would be a drag to go there since it is out of the way.

I have though about the 5 day cooler and thanks for the update that it does work. I looked at it and it is dam thick.

If you put canned beer right on top of or under dry ice it will do more than freeze :nuke:

When I got it at raleys it was flat, about 10 inches square more or less about an inch thick more or less sold by weight.

Lining the bottom and putting ice on top would prolly be the best way, but I usually have the cooler loaded when I buy the dry ice so this doesnt work so good.

So I usually save reserve space between blocks of ice and slide it in the middle wrapped in newspaper. Paper grocery sacks work good for wrapping if you forget the newspaper.

I would call Raleys in Loomis. They might have it. I'll bet Raleys in Auburn still carries it.

the question I have is how the hell you fit a 100 quart cooler in your 5?

Well there ya go! If you order the steaks before you go you get the dry ice for FREE!!!:D

Years ago I worked for a complex that the manager decided to give out popcicles at the entrance to people coming home from work. We packed 'em in dry ice in some good foam coolers. Funniest thing was the first kid that came up and asked for a popcicle got the damn thing stuck on his tongue!

since we are on the topic of dry ice, I thought you guys might appreciate a little thing my buddy made. A dry ice patato cannon. Essentially it is a sealable chamber with a 2" (maybe 2.5") tube coming out. You shove a patato in and a dry ice bomb in the chamber, :nuke:BOOM :nuke:

We consitently get full 10 second hang times:eek:  , and there is no risk of fire since it is just dry ice.:) :)

just leave the drain hole open on the side of your cooler so the water does not melt the ice so fast ,it last a couple days longer that way:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Good shiat!!! But the whole towel thing that Lance is doing is the best idea! I have not done this in the past and it really gets nasty when you try to chip your beer out of a solid block of ice when you are drunk!! :D
