i am putting my guages together and my chilton's manual says that for my 94 YJ 4.0, the sender post on the voltmeter has a wire that t-fits to the temperature gauge wire which runs to the temperature sending unit. why is this? thanks!

no, it has a seperate ground wire. the voltmeter has 3 connections on the back. sender, ignition, and ground. the sender post supposedly connects to the temp. sending unit.....????

Well the way you described it they are just using the existing 12 for the volt meter as the power needed to run the Temp gage. 12v source is a 12v source. The volt meter is just measuring the voltage and not effecting it in any way. My guess is since you don't want the gage running while the key is off the 12v for the voltage gage is switched and killing two birds with one stone so to speak. It also may be a double reduntant. Loose power to those gages then both read zero zero so you know if you have a power problem. If you have voltage on the volt meter but reading zero on the oil pressure then you know the oil presure gage is getting 12v you may have a real problem.
"Sender" for a gage is sort of misleading. They are acutally a variable ground. Varies with pressure or temperature. The gage sits at 12v as a constant. Since the gage is inline it again is not effecting the voltage the volt meter will read. Your not grounding the wire.
