there is only enough room in a scout for motors up to 459. there is no way a 460 will fit.:flipoff2: but do you think there will be enough power??:p

that could be a good torquey powerplant. ya got one sitting around? i was stuck on the diesel (GM6.2L) swap, but since i've seen how strong and small the ferd triton V10 is i'm thinking one of those would be a mean swap. don't have exact dimensions, but a guy who does a lot of welding and field work was telling me about his so i had him pop the hood. doesn't appear a whole lot bigger than my 5.4L. he's pulling a heavily loaded truck and trailer at times and has had zip for problems with high miles. only bad thing he could say was the 5 speed trans has a needle pilot bearing and it's too short. he machined his own plain bearing that fits the length of the input.

It's been done on here before and done very well I might add *cough*Cajun*cough* :flipoff2:

Any of the 2000 and up V10 315hp with the new head design are good motors but look out for the older style. I have seen tons of people blowing plugs because Ford only had 4 threads (now 8) holding the plugs in the head

I'd go with the V10. Get one out of a wreck. Pull the engine, tranny, radiator and t-case and install in your junk.

I dare you....I double dare you

*edit* If a V10 will fit inside a mustang, it'll fit inside a Scout.

A bigger cubic inch motor will fit. In order for my 490 to fit, I had to pull the inner fenderwells out. :D

My little rig has a 472 so a 460 should fit no problem....:D

http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296694 its like 10 threads down.

I am swaping in a 460 zf 1356/205 doubler (pain in the ass but it works) HP dana 60 14-bolt radius front 4 trilink rear with airbags all around. and h1's and 42's. have everything but the 14-bolt so far.

similar setup to cajun, except I'm running gas (for now), ZF and a 14 bolt rear. also using 1356 for a range box for 130 to 1 ish crawl ratio.

bla bla bla, buy my propane shit.....
I'd like to get $400 OBA +shipping.
.....

WTF is $400 OBA?

They didn't add more threads till 2002 or so. My 01 blew a plug. Lot's of 01's and sometimes even 02 with the blowout problem.

Personally I think you'd be better off with a 460. A very mildly prepped 460 will run circles around a v10. A newer 3 valve might be OK though.
