: Dual Stearing wheels?
rpenner54 05-31-2002, 08:15 AM Here is a hypothetical question for you all. Lets say you have a tub buggy. Lets say your gf/wife also loves to drive. In this tube buggy you have hydro stearing right? Well how much harder would it be to stick a second wheel on the passenger side into the whole mess? I know pedals would be do-able without to much trouble. From what I have seen of hydro even that wouldn't be to bad.
Anyone else think this might be a cool idea? That and if you were driving alone and needed to see the other side for a while you could switch???
Just a thought...
Welby 05-31-2002, 08:18 AM What in the fawk are you smokin'?

I am with you Welby!!
Aggro 05-31-2002, 09:03 AM That would be cool if you wanted to turn right and she wanted to go left...:nuke: :nuke:
AzWebMan 05-31-2002, 10:11 AM If you really want two steering wheels, why not just put a dummy one on the passenger side and then connect the two using a chain or a belt.

You'll have to excuse him, he has been unemployed since the 15th and has too much time on his hands! At least he's thinking about me, though. :D
Pdaddy 05-31-2002, 02:53 PM lets say hypothetically, you got this idea and it concerened sharing with your wife, your one true passion, then you built it, and you realized she fawked your one true passion all up cause she was chasin daisies with your trail rig......... just build her a rig, then you can trade back an forth! :flipoff2:
Monkeyboy 05-31-2002, 03:11 PM I have a better idea how bout you have two steering wheels but instead of side by side one is in front and one is in back.
if you wanted you could sit in the other seat and have 4 reverse gears and one forward :flipoff2:

or just get out of the friggin truck and walk around to the other side!!

Keyster 05-31-2002, 04:01 PM With hydro steering you do not need to mount the steering wheel in line with the steering gear.
You could mount the steering wheel and control valve anywhere or even make it moveable.
Good luck
K.
SeaBass44 05-31-2002, 05:28 PM Go for it! but use 1 wheel and a quick connect, so u just pop off the wheel and hand it over;) no fighting....
408_jigga 05-31-2002, 05:57 PM Ask a driving school intructor's mechanic, Better yet, build a wheelin school intsructor's rig and teach 5 year olds how to wheel. So if your stuck in a rock and a hard rock, you could manuever him outta it with out gettin off your ass!! Cuz if I was to be a driving instructor in the first place, I would NOT want to get off my ass!!!!
so my opinion is to call the nearest driving instructor school and ask for the mechanics phone number.
f150ed 05-31-2002, 11:32 PM Why stop with that? Put in two seats back to back with the front end with a normal steering wheel and controlls, and a second steering wheel to controll the rear steering, and pedals to use when you put in in reverse.......or how bout a splitter in the middle controlling forward/reverse so you would have five gears in each direction and a completely symetrical vehicle!!!
Or just tell her to sit on your lap:rasta:
Erik D_lux 06-01-2002, 02:17 AM anybody else ever seen the cruiser with two front ends hooked back to back? I always thought it was cool, but I wouldnt do it.
Yes it CAN be done. Actually, the Garbage trucks around here have that exact setup for when there is only 1 man on the truck. Saves them time from stopping, climbing out, walking to the curb side and knocking your can (and its contents over), throw the lid in the middle of the road, walking back around the truck and driving off. They are hydraulically powered, there must be a valve that isolates the other wheel:smokin:
Jason M 06-01-2002, 07:55 AM You gonna set up brakes and a gas pedal on the second side too???
(I'm gonna leave the clutch out of this because you seem the lazy type)
Dumb idea..
Get out and let her drive if it means that much to her.
Seems simple enough to me.
Make a slider tray across the whole dash, and make it so the hydro steering valve and wheel will slide from one side to the other, and lock into place on the driver's or other-driver's postion :p Just have enough hose under the dash to account for the movement.
rpenner54 06-01-2002, 08:53 AM :flipoff2: Hey so I was bored! LOL I was just thinking outside the box. I probably will never do something like this but just thought it would be a neet idea. :);)
TNToy 06-01-2002, 04:17 PM I think a cooler (but still weird & impractical) setup would be a tube buggy with tandem seating (like a fighter) where the front guy was the driver, and the rear guy would work the rear steer independently.
Sloan 06-01-2002, 04:34 PM Uh oh, someone else has been smoking the same stuff you are. He just didn't sober up before he put it into practice.;)

Lol,
"We have a unidentified vehicle coming in at 3 o'clock. Arming Sidewinders." :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
BillaVista 06-01-2002, 07:56 PM What you really want to do, is build a single seat buggy with a seat that rotates and locks in at each of the four 90* positions, with full hydro drivetrain, and wheels that can rotate 359* so you can swivel and lock, and then drive "forwards" while actually driving forwards, backwards, or sideways :smokin:
