: All Pro Springs: Revised
BensonMN 05-31-2002, 11:53 AM After weeks of research on springs (Mazda, Chevy, S-10 2WD, 44044) I finally took the plunge and called All Pro today.
After talking with Terry for about 20 minutes the 4" All Pro springs appear to be the best solution front and rear for my application. Easy, less fuss, no shoping at yards, scrounging for parts and they arrive at my door ready to install.
My question is, should I have went with the Stock length front or Long? My truck is an 85 with the axle moved 2.375 forward and everything appears to be working well.
So, I ordered the longs thinking I could move the axle to best location without bind. (it works almost perfect now but travel is limited)
Note: All Pro Hy-Steer with 35 BFG ---- moving to 37 Goodyear MT/R or 38 TSL.
Any advice?
Regardless: Thanks All Pro!! Ffor the sale on these springs. Excited to get them in and get out on the trail.
rockota 05-31-2002, 11:55 AM to move the front spring eye 1" forward. Take about 2 hours to build and weld in place. Doesn't have to have any drop to it unless so desired....
i have run both styles and i like the longer ones.
whitebrowithafro 06-01-2002, 12:03 PM The longer ones!! I have a AP setup front and rear.....and 38's

Long=wise choice=more flex=smart:D
Booger Weldz 06-02-2002, 04:19 PM i run the 3" springs up front(1.5" longer) and the 4" out back with the bottom leaf pulled on 38's. they work good, but you could do just as good for WAY cheaper and put that $$ toward other mods(locker/crawl box)! if i could do it all over...
BensonMN 06-06-2002, 11:18 AM BoogerWeldz--
THE List
1) Added Suspension Travel (All Pro Springs)
2) Larger Tires (Undecided: 37 MT/R or 38 TSL)
3) Long Travel Shock Mounts: Front (9012's Ready and Waiting)
4) 9500I Warn
5) 4.7 Gears in first box (Have Stock Gear Second Box Already)
After waffling back and forth between what spring to run, I decided to get off the couch and order the All Pro's while they were on sale. They were as cheap as 44044's so it seemed the easy route.
Have some 38x12.50 SX's at the shop. Plan to bolt those up while doing the spring switch. Maybe that will get me off the couch on what tires to buy. I'm leaning toaward the 16/38.5x15 TSL today but that may change to something else within the hour.
What does WhiteBroWithAFro run? They look like 38x12.50 TSL?
BensonMN 06-06-2002, 11:23 AM Wonder what my three point torque bar (Jay Built) will do with 1/4 Eliptical (Buggy Spring)??
Maybe pulling the load leaf AND torque leaf (Military Wrap Half Spring?) will be better solution to flex? Dont foget the bump stops.
This will add complexity BUT what if I move the spring mounts inward (toward the center of the truck) by three of four inches?
This will leverage the spring more AND help the bump stop to work better as a lever to push the other tire down under compression?
I'm babbling now...
jhama78 06-06-2002, 11:32 AM Go here this is convertiyota's website, he has done the inboarding of the rear springs that you were talking about in your post. Hes on here pretty much every day, maybe he'll comment on how it does with this mod.

Sounds like you are as much up in the air as I am on what to do with my rig...
3-link coil?, 1/4 elliptic?, half cab-tube rear?, flatty front fenders?, "ARCA" style rear wheelwell trimming?...Bla, bla, bla!
I wish I could make up my stinkin' mind! :D
BensonMN 06-06-2002, 11:56 AM I'm kind of onto this inboard spring thing now.
It would require moving the gas tank. Not a big deal is it? Fuel cell between the rear rails behind the axle would be good for weight distribution. Not sure what would be involved with this move. New hard line for gas required? In tank pump or eternal.
Time to do some more research and break out the search function...

my rears are inboarded, 29" frame front and rear like a toyota, so rears are like 5" inboarded both sides.....stock toyota rears F & R see how they do....
poppycock 06-06-2002, 07:11 PM seabass does it ever feel too tippy with the rear springs inboarded so far? or ar they stiffer springs?

I've had very little wheel time, but so far it's very soft:eek: I'll know after the con next week:p :p :p
convertiyota 06-06-2002, 09:00 PM Mine are the allpro 5" rears w/ the bottom leaf removed. They're in 4.5" each side. I've had it out 4 times on trails around the house and I love it so far. Finally trimmed the fenders and just need to get the bumpstops on.
