: KS offroad park needs help
inphobic 05-31-2002, 01:41 PM We need to get the word out to anybody that can make the county comissioners meeting This monday June 3rd in Mound City, KS. The meeting starts at 10:00AM at the court house annex. If anybody can make it we hope to out number the residents this time so the comissioners can do thier job and vote on the facts. We have a yes vote, a no vote and a I don't know so far. Don't know how many comissioners there are though.
Thanks guys, Jake
(Lance, Camo, Sorry for posting in the General just needed to get the word out to the local guys here by monday. I'll delete it after that, Or hopefully post some kick ass news about an off road park opening in Kansas!)
Pdaddy 05-31-2002, 02:25 PM yeah, I jumped the letter bandwagon, and actually made a 50 mile round trip to personally deliver the flyers to get people to write in to the commissioner (Andy Mayhugh) and get this , I talked to this guy from mound city, he said they dont want it, small town keep the outsiders out kinda thing, and what really bites is he went on to say " Yeah but if they OK it Ill use it, what a dick!!!! I gotta work, but I intend to send my dead beat no job havin dad down there ( :flipoff2:  ) do you have any directions to were exactly to meet up at?!!! Also I tried the link in your sig and got nuthin, what up!! I really wish there was some organization for four wheelers in this state, it seems that the clubs dont communicate as they should and things pass by unnoticed, hell I stumbled upon the whole Kansas Rocks Rec park by accident lookin for parts local, I know alot of guys around me that are all over it also, be nice not to travel 3+ hours to wheel!!!
MattS 05-31-2002, 02:43 PM I can't get off work with this short of notice. Hopefully you will outnumber them and win. If not, on appeal with more notice I would gladly drive down. It's only about 4 hours away.
inphobic 05-31-2002, 08:30 PM yeah we didn't want to have to resort to this kind of tactic but we feel it might be necessary with the opions expressed by the comissioners. Hence the late notice. Thanks for the support guys!
Jake
KS Toy 05-31-2002, 09:11 PM I wish I had heard about this sooner! Not enough notice for me either. Anyway to get it postponed?
MattS 05-31-2002, 09:15 PM No chance on talking with the opposing people and trying for a work around or a gated/member only locked gate huh? I really don't know much about the deal but it really sucks that good paid for wheeling land gets shut down. Any links for more info would be great. I only know a little about it that I have picked up thru the grapevine. Thanks!
inphobic 06-02-2002, 07:58 PM Well I'll be able to update everybody some more tomorrow! I hope it all goes well. My wife and son are going down with me in the morning. Hope we can make a good presence. We want to stick to our guns and stay with our original plan. If we get shot down totally we'll regroup and try again. Thanks for the support everybody! Jake
TrailKeeper 06-02-2002, 08:40 PM Jake,
In March I met a guy by the name of John Salmons from Lenexa who told me about this park. At least I think he was talking about the same park. He said you had secured a grant to develop it.
Anyway, let me know if you need any help. I have a small town that we have been working with for 3 years now. They have nothing but good things to say about recreational four wheel drive enthusiasts. We have 5 events in their town this year, and they want us to have more! If you need a reference for the commissioners to call, I have it.
Good luck!
Tim
Pdaddy 06-03-2002, 12:54 PM any word yet, how'd it go this morning?

TrailKeeper... This is J.Salmons and yes this is the same park :D I mentioned to the BOD that I had met you and that you might be able to help in one way or another back in March but did not get much of a response for interest at that time. Maybe they will enlist your help since they have hit a snag. :usa:
TrailKeeper 06-03-2002, 05:53 PM John (Flatbastard),
Small world, huh. Let me know if there is anything I can do. If I can think of anything, I will let you know.

MattS 06-03-2002, 07:16 PM Update?
inphobic 06-04-2002, 05:20 AM Denied...
We have a couple different paths we may try at this point. I'll let everyone as soon as any new developments take place. One of the comminsioners is a memeber of the serria club and was against us from the get go. The pressure from the residents is intense as the comissiners actually fear for thier safety. There was one commisioner that did go for the park, the residents were planning after the meeting to confront him at his house as a group...... Thanks guys, Jake

Holy Sh!t. Guess he won't be getting re-elected:eek: . It's sad that they don't realize the revenue increase they would see from the park. Food, gas, and lodging revenue would go through the roof (along with everything else).
inphobic 06-04-2002, 05:45 AM Yeah it's too bad with the support of 6 local mayors. One even spoke on our behalf. Some people realize the benifits this has. We aren't going to give up yet! There is a reason this county is the poorest in kansas!
Pdaddy 06-04-2002, 05:49 AM I can say Im not surprised, it really sucks though, I have heard that the residents are not even happy about it, please keep us posted!! If there is another meeting or anything, give us an advanced notice so guys can plan to get there!!!! Anything I can do let me know, I would love to see this place open (I live real close to mound city!!) :(
MattS 06-04-2002, 07:48 AM So please explain how the meeting went down. I have never been to one. Is there 2 sides to the room, a few people get to talk and then there is a yes/no vote for the room and who ever gets the most votes wins? Do we just need to appeal and then get more people to show up and out vote them?
What exactly are you voting on? A zoning issue or land right of way? Access road?
I work for a large Law Firm in Omaha. We don't have anyone that I know of with a License in MO but I can look stuff up and try and be as much help as possible. Maybe I can find a loop hole. :D

inphobic 06-04-2002, 08:05 AM In order to open a recreational park you must get a conditional use permit. The way thier ordinaces work down there is it doesn't matter if it is a private or public recreational activity you still must get a permit. We may have a loop hole and we are persuring legal advice to see what our optins are. However we have had no luck getting a lawyer to show interest is our case. If anyone knows of a lawyer versed in anything like this please notify me. We have talked with the legal team that finally got paragon park open but they are expensive and require added travel expenses.
We cannot apply for another permit for another year for the park so we may have a while to get our ducks in a row. But we are seeking legal counsel immediatly.
Thanks, Jake
bigdude 06-04-2002, 08:27 AM Contact Troy Meyers the owner of the Attica Badlancds. I read an interview before where he explained all the hoops he had to jump through. I'm sure he could give plenty of advise and point you to some good people. He is also a very friendly guy.
inphobic 06-04-2002, 08:29 AM I believe we have already talked with troy but I will make sure. thanks, Jake

With all the tech write-ups here, I think someone oughtta do a "Public Lands Use" write-up. We are facing one trail getting closed up here, maybe more. CA is continously fighting the Greenie Weenies. I know it is a state by state case, but start with what ever locale has been successful in opening/preserving trails.
inphobic 06-04-2002, 12:28 PM Actually just talked to David Killion he said he has been unsucessful at reaching troy. Said he was always out on the tractor or sumptin...
