It just a standard HF bearing splitter with the lip tightened into the snapring grove on the input bearing. Then I threaded a couple 5/8" bolts into the tapped holes on the splitter to attach a couple pieces of angle iron to extend the reach of the standard two-jaw puller.

Hey genius:rolleyes: You think Terry tore those transmissions apart with his bare hands?? He has the same type of puller system made out of 1/2" flat stock. He works on bearings all day. You could have asked:shaking::flipoff2:

In the upper lefthand corner of my pick you can see some orange... that is the legs of my shop crane, which is also in your pic.

Knowing Terry I would have guessed a hammer and some sort of cutting apparatus.:flipoff2::flipoff2:

That is what Amber suggested after about 4 hours of me cussing at it... and I quote "You need one of those plasma torch thingys..."

Thanks buddy, I'm not ALWAYS a hack. I just play one on the BB.:flipoff2:

Thanks Dan for giving me a little credit ! He knows I'm a hack "only" 91% of the time!

Fawk, I just read this "460 in a Scout thread" and looked at the 460 in my shop and the clanging, banging valves on the IH POS..... shit! I need a beer!

Yeah -- right ---- Plasma cutter.... :shaking: If she actually knew how much I spent on the welder she'd kill me...

I need to sell a hell of a lot more Scout parts to be able to buy a plasma cutter.

Get one of the Parker units.... look up divtec in the vendor section. I took advantage of one of his sales and picked up a 40 amp machine for $300. Cut's 1/4" like butter. Will cut 1/2 nicely, but a little slower than "a hot knife through butter".

Super quick question...

Per the manual I only place one bronze thrust washer on the IM shaft at the end with the smaller gear... BUT when I took it apart there was one at each end.. AND the case I am putting them in has not enough space to wedge in the 2nd washer...

So which way is it???

AND this exploded view I just googled up shows the bronze washer at both ends....

My guess is the IH manual is just wrong??

Trying to remember if mine had just one or one on both ends.... it's been a while since I rebuilt mine and I've slept a time or two since then. I will have to dig up the pics again when I get home and get a chance and see if the pics tell me anything. I'll try to get to it tonight sometime, but my plate is starting to fill up.

I managed to get both bronze washers installed -- So that is the way I am going to run it....

I'll just figure the IH manual is wrong and I'm right :D

Now I just need tp get a better set of snap ring pliers. :barf:

What you want is a set of lock ring pliers... and a decent size pair at that. They need to spread apart a pretty good distance to expand the lock rings enough to make the job easy.

All I can tell from my pics is that there is definintely a bronze washer on the end of the counter shaft with the big gear.

I ended up with these lock ring pliers:

http://ihsto.org/pirate/lockringpliers.jpg

Sears #47386, $15.00.

I would have liked a touch bigger set - but they worked pretty well.

As for the tranny --- It is in the truck and ready for a few final checks... :D:D:D

Thats great! Lets go break it in:evil: There is a certain upper loop at the Crushers that you owe another visit. I'll see if I can get your steering box ported up soon.
