1st Annual Chicago Toyota Jamboree
at
The Cliffs Insane Terrain Offroad Park
Marseilles Il
July 28, 29
http://www.thecliffsinsaneterrain.com/

Due to a lack of local Toyota events and a large number of local Toyotas, I am working with the Cliffs to organize this event. There will be all levels of wheeling. Last weekend we had a run and two Land Rover LR3's showed up and they had a blast on the lighter trails. Or you can run the type of carnage happy trails that the cliffs have come to be known for.

This will be open to ALL Toyota 4x4's (mini's, cruisers,fjc's...) But of course anyone who wants to wheel is welcome.

We will meet in the Cliffs parking lot at 8:30 on saturday morning.

There will be raffles for the following (as of now, It will hopefully grow)
-A warn M8000
-Maybe some other small goodies

The Toyota FJCruiser Trail Team may attend (dont know yet)
Adam from 4xinnovations may also attend and show off some of his tube products

CAMPING

Camping at the Cliffs, in the park, $10 per site/rig, no hook up.

There is camping at whispering pines (new owners will be changing name to 4 Star). The campgrounds are directly behind the cliffs.

RATES:

PRIMITIVE: $20/night
ELECTRIC HOOK UP: $29/night
FULL HOOK UP (RVS ETC.): $30/night
There is a Shower House

UPDATE

I think there will be 25 rigs strong and as many as 35, and the boards havent really picked up steam yet.

A land cruiser club from MI is coming down.

Theres some more stuff for the raffle.

As soon as I get my beadlocks fixed I will go down to the cliffs and scout out some fun intermediate trails with Joe and/or Tom and my GPS. (I know where the easy and hard trails are but the middle trails are kinda hidden:think:)

Any who this looks like it could be a monster event (probably the biggest toyota event in the midwest, I think) and its still 1 1/2 months out.

So I figured a little update was in order.

UPDATE

The cliffs talked to the campgrounds and they will lower their price to $20/night for primitive.

UPDATE

I was in Marseilles today to pick up a new axle housing after I destroyed mine, and Tom (trail boss for the Cliffs) was nice enough to take me to the local campgrounds so I have an idea what to expect.

Well 4 star is fine, and will work, and heres the kicker they allow alcohol.

Now the State park (Illini state park I think) is awesome! VERY clean, on the river, cheaper, most of the sites are in the woods. BUT they "say" no alcohol allowed.

So you all decide which you want to do

OH BTW I SPOKE TO TOM AND THE RAFFLE WILL HAVE EITHER THE WINCH OR THE BUMPER NOT BOTH. AND WE DECIDED TO DO THE WINCH (M8000 BTW) OOPS

Woody says he is planning on rolling his 40 so that will give me something to look forward to. Toms eyes lit up when I told him. He has some trails for ya.

Oh BTW the Seneca (105) exit is now open.

HUGE UPDATE

Tom and I spoke and we can camp at the cliffs. It will be up in the park on one of the large open areas. It will cost $10 per site/rig. This is awesome and will allow us to wheel more and sleep late if some one wants, and they can hook up later....

Tom also said that he might be up for a night run BUT for ADVANCED RIGS ONLY!!! If he does do it then it will be a small goup he said maybe 6.

BUT there is no hook up and the RV's wont be able to get back to the open areas due to terrain. But RV's can be in the parking lot, but there is no hook up there either. If you dont want any of that obviously you can go to the campgrounds. If you do want to setup in the parking lot you have to be sensitive to the fact there is NO AFTER HOURS WHEELING meaning you will have to keep travel between the rv's and tents to a minimum and only along the designated routes. So basically use common sense and lets try make this an annual privilage or else you may find my stinger inserted into a custom made orifice in your truck.

Well Im exited.

UPDATE:

Ok not much to update but the boards are kinda dead so...

As of today it seems that 50 rigs plan to attend. I would say that 30-35 of them are "reliable."

CRAWL magazine will be sending two guys down to cover the event for a future issue. So you may see your truck in CRAWL!

What are everyones plans for camping. I would like to give Tom a heads up. If you are going to stay at the Cliffs do you plan to bring an RV or a tent. See previous updates for details on Cliffs camping.

I will be there on friday afternoon to setup and help people with whatever, and probably do some wheeling.

The Cliffs only allows 39.5 inches and smaller, no tires 40 or more inches. This leaves me out unless they will waive the rule for this event.

07-10-2007, 09:56 PM
I will waive my magical powerless (on toms behalf) wand and say yes. The original intent of the rule was to preserve the "virginity":D of the trails when they opened and to deture(sp) the good ol' boy muddin junk.

Most of the trails are way too tight for "muddin junk" but I see their point, the good ol' boys can be a pain. It's too bad their "point" leaves some of us out in the cold.

joez
07-11-2007, 07:03 PM
Yes, the rule will be waived for the event so long as you respect the trails. Im on 42's myself, but i am also still running a mostly stock 22re, cant do much damage.. So long as you are not tearing up the trails there will be no problem with the big tire guys. Tom just asks that you be respectful.

But, if you are just aching to open it up and romp through something, there are a few mud holes that 4rnr, tom, or even myself can direct you towards that are not part of any trail system and you would be free to drop the hammer in.

Update

Close to 60-70 rigs at this point!!

Gumby, Tom, Joez, and I did a little prerun on some intermediate/advanced (IMO) stuff. The trails are DRY, which is good. Some good technical driving can be done due to the amount of traction.

Heres some pics

UPDATE:

Well, today I went to the cliffs with Gumby and met Tom. We did some camp site hunting and found a couple places to camp. They should both be nice sites but I will warn you now it might be a little dusty due to some distant ATV traffic. Im not worried about it.

The weather looks good. slight chance of some rain on friday. That might be a great thing. Its very dry out there, and unless its a major rain it shouldnt soup stuff up, but it will knock down the dust. Sat/Sun are sunny and mid 80's.

We talked to Steve (owner) and he is going to do some trail work to make the easy trails more consistant and fun for the stockers/newbies.

Every one who brings a vehicle will receive a raffle ticket (I think I can add a tube bumper to that). Additional raffle tickets can be bought.

An orange flag is mandatory for all vehicles so either bring one or bring $12.99.

Oh and Gumby broke his t-case in half today during our shake-down run:)

Well thats all I can think of for now.

UPDATE:

2 days!!

I am having some last minute cancelations (as expected. I expect more).

If you are coming on friday

I will be there at about 10am and will be helping people get situated and show them where the camping is going to be. I do expect to do some wheeling on friday too. Friday night will be camping.

If you are coming saturday

Try to be there by 9am. We will be in the parking lot organizing the trail groups.

I know many of you and know this doesnt need to be said but.... Please respect the trails. Dont make your own trails. Tread lightly. Clean up after yourself. Also be respectful of Marseilles. They are just now getting used to the Cliffs being there. Lets not piss them off.

Umm yeah thats all.

Well, I had a blast thanks to everyone for coming out. I also thought there would be more FJC's. I think the weather changed their mind a little. It was very sloppy. I was hoping for dry conditions so everyone could venture into the interior of the park. Maybe next year.

A HUGE thanks to Tom. Theres no better trail guide than the man who created the Cliffs. Tom stepped WAY up on the raffle (winch, straps, tree savers, shirts, stickers, highlift, tools, doritos) and I hope to see all the TNT 4x4 stuff put to good use.

Thanks to Carl from Outback Offroad. I know Alot of guys really enjoyed your rigs, and thanks for the 3 500$ gift certificates!!! Thanks Adam (4xinnovations) for the tube work. Thanks woody for all the mugs and stickers. Thanks oddmar for the bumper. Thanks Cliffs for some shirts, passes, and stickers. I hope I didnt forget anyone but im tired after being at the cliffs after 6:00 today after I had to fix a blown trunion bearing (I went off some sweet jumps)

Thanks to CRAWL magazine for coming out and covering the event, and all the free mags.

Thanks a ton to Scott, Dragon, Digger, and all the other experienced wheelers for showing the guys around the trails.

Next year will be bigger and better. The FJC trail team should come.

Now someone post up some pics.

Great great time. Had a blast. Thanks Tom for everything. We ended up bringing 13 trucks in our group with a total of 24 people. Almost everyone in our group won something in the raffle and all were great prizes. Of course the terrain was insane!!!! MUD MUD MUD. Funny watching everyone slip and fall just trying to walk. A few new dents and parts list of: steering shaft, two braided brake lines, front half shaft, front ifs diff, brake caliper and one tire.
Thanks Matt from CRAWL. Jacob my 14 yr old has his fingers crossed and wont stop telling everyone that you took a ton of pics of him on the rock course.
We will be there for sure next year.

Next year is already rolling. We plan on food, music, an actual camp ground, a more organized system of communicating, more trails for every level of wheeler, and no rain ;)

The shop/main office building will be done soon and that will give us a "home base" for activities and questions. We will have an artinerary(sp), and more trail leaders. (Sorry/thanks again to Scott, Dragon, and Digger) I also would like to run more night runs and for different levels of wheeler. No one should miss out on that. That was the funnest run I did (It helped that I drove Woodys fj40 though, Thanks again.)

Some of you who know me know I was kinda bummed about winning the winch and I felt worse through out the day. So as of now I plan to donate it to next years raffle.

Heres some pics my wife took of we were off doing. These give you an idea of what the interior of the park looks like. Many of the trucks that ran #1 could run SOME of these trails once its dry out.

My pics are post #114 & #115, but there are others.
